When I grew up, a lot of the math I did involved memorization. I will proudly say that I was good at it and loved it (well at least once I understood it – ha ha)! Now that I have my own children, it’s a little tougher, especially where Common Core Math comes into play. As a parent, I want to be able to help my children and not only have the answers, but know how to explain how to get the answers if they need help! It makes it hard though when I can’t even figure it out for myself, it’s hard for me to help them figure it out. Math shouldn’t be a subject that is dreaded, but rather one that is fun. That is where Revolution Math comes into play.

Revolution Math is an online, after-school program designed to help 2nd-5th graders develop their math skills and overall love of learning. Small squads of 3-4 students are matched with a live tutor as they go on weekly adventures, using math to solve mysteries and tackle team-based challenges, with the added option of 上門補習 for personalized learning at home.

Revolution Math, an online learning program for elementary students (grades 2-5), is based in Santa Monica, California.  Combining live tutoring with an immersive and story-based curriculum, Revolution Math has been met with overwhelmingly positive feedback from parents, students and teachers.  Their core mission is to help students not only get excited by math, but also to get ahead and boost engagement in the learning process. My kids learned so much with these best secondary maths tutors.

Features of Revolution Math

The Characters

Students select their favorite characters at the beginning of each session and read their parts in a story infused math adventure. The characters’ names are Zoe, Merek, Britt and Rowen. The characters look different based on the age and grade (i.e. Grade 2 looks like a kid while Grade 5 looks more grown up). Our son, Samuel, participated in the Revolution Math tutoring session and really enjoyed it. He chose the character Rowen (the fox).

Story-Based Learning

Revolution Math’s online learning environment uses a story-based curriculum to make the program the most engaging way to get better at math. I listened as Samuel and the teacher went through the session and it sounded fun and engaging all while doing math! The teacher was very sweet and helpful and told Sam that he could use a funny voice or even wear his character’s mask while it was his turn!

Game Instruction

During each session, students encounter Common Core aligned math games and exercises. I love that they make math fun through games and having the child interact by helping to tell the story and figure out the problems. When they figure out the problems, they get a reward. If they answer the question wrong, it’s still ok because the teacher walks them through the question and helps them to figure out how to get to the correct answer.

What’s In The Box?

Every student receives a learning kit upon joining the program. Inside they will find materials that enhance the Revolution Math
learning experience. I thought it looked like a pretty cool kit.

The Prizes

When students earn gems and level up, they’ll not only improve their math skills, but also be able to exchange gems for awesome prizes! With regular participation in the Revolution Math program, the students can earn some pretty cool prizes!

My Overall Thoughts

I am really glad that I was introduced to Revolution Math and I think it’s an awesome program! While right now it has grades 2-5, I would love to see it have the higher grade levels in the future. I loved how personable and helpful the teacher was and that she made it fun for Samuel. Not to mention the extras that came in the box beforehand – lots of goodies in the box! I think the idea of gems and rewards in connection to the story telling and math problem solving is a great idea and definitely helps get the kids excited about understand math! This is a great program and I highly recommend it!
