Did you know that the World Health Organization declared April 7th, 2017 as World Health Day focusing on mental health? This year-long campaign aims to educate, raise awareness and help people suffering from mental illness.

Depression, Anxiety, and other mental health issues now affect over 300 million people worldwide according to the WHO and they think that more needs to be done to educate and inform just how tough this illness can be. It’s usually also the underlying cause of many other social issues.

Those of us who have a dog in our life, knows just how important they are for keeping us fit, socializing and living life to the full.

Many think that by having a dog in your life, it can really help with coping and so does Andy and the team at Pet Gear Lab. They’ve created this infographic to highlight 12 reasons why a dog can help you cope with depression and anxiety.

    I definitely believe a dog can help our mental state and happiness. Just having that company and one that always wants to please and is so happy to see you is so uplifting.

    Whenever I was sad, when my dog was still alive, he always cheered me up. There is definitely something to it.

  3. I absolutely agree that dogs help with depression and anxiety. I know mine lift my mood when I am feeling down.

  4. Dogs are the ultimate medicine, in my opinion. When I’m down, they pick me up. When it’s time for fun, it’s even better.

    I feel like the answer to this is a big, fat yes. I don’t have a dog, but I know that when I play with dogs, I immediately feel so much more calm.

    I have actually heard the effectiveness of dog cuddles on anxiety. They are such wonderful creatures that can bring so much love!

  12. I know that I feel so much better now that dogs are a part of my life. I love my two little fur babies as much as anything in this world. I always feel better when one of them gets on my lap with their tail wagging.

  13. as the mama to two furbabies I can say with full confidence that my two dogs help me each time I merely stroke their ears! There is something so soothing and calming about my two sweet boys that can cure any bad feelings or moods I find myself in!

    My dog can be stubborn sometimes but his cuddly ways and natural charm outweighs it. He is our stress reliever. It is always a fun time giving him his belly rubs. And boy, can this dog dream! He barks softly when he is fast asleep. I cannot imagine life without a dog in the house.

    I think the infographic is awesome. My 2nd oldest son had a dog that would mope and get so sad when he was out of the house. I think that dog had a touch of depression. She was delightful when he was home, lol!

  20. My husband dealt with a long bout with depression. I know our Great Dane that we got near the end of it was a big help bringing him back out of it.

    My BFF from childhood has 2 dogs that help her immensely with anxiety and stress. Although for me, I think dogs are a lot of work. I can’t deal w/ cleaning up poop and pee from animals.
