I remember the excitement when the decision to get pregnant became a reality. I love to see women wearing stylish maternity robes on their pregnancy journey. Like everyone, I think I assumed it would be easy and happen as soon as I started trying. While some women get pregnant right away, others may take a little (or a lot) longer to conceive. This can quickly cause the excitement to fizzle down into frustration.

Are you thinking of trying to become pregnant? If so, a little planning and preparing can go a long way! You may also want to consider having pregnancy tests at Pregnancy Resource Center to make sure that the test is administered appropriately. Check out these 8 Things to do Before Trying to Get Pregnant.

8 Things to do Before Trying to Get Pregnant

1 – Talk with your partner. Before trying to get pregnant, it’s very important to make sure that you and your partner are on the same page about getting pregnant. You’ll definitely want the emotional support once you do become pregnant. This will also add to the excitement of trying to get pregnant.

2 – Schedule a preconception visit with your doctor. If you’re thinking about trying to get pregnant, you’ll want to schedule a preconception visit with your gynecologist such as this gynecologist in Odessa, TX or InVogue Total Women’s Healthcare – Gynecology services. If it’s been a long time since your last wellness exam, you’ll definitely want to do this right away. The gynecology doctor may also give you a prescription for prenatal vitamins.

3 –  Give up drinking, smoking, and drugs. You’ll want to be as healthy as possible and the best way to do this is to stop drinking alcohol, smoking or doing drugs. There is help available if you need it.

4 – Start taking prenatal vitamins. You can either get a prescription for prenatal vitamins or you can buy them over-the-counter. The sooner you start taking prenatal vitamins, the better.

5 – Stock your refrigerator with healthy foods. Stock up on fruits and vegetables, as well as foods that are high in calcium (such as milk, yogurt and orange juice fortified with calcium). You’ll also want to make sure you have foods that are good sources of proteins, such as meat, poultry, beans, nuts, seeds and soy products.

6 – Stop taking birth control or using other contraceptives. Once you decide you’d like to get pregnant, you’ll need to stop taking birth control or using other contraceptives. I would encourage you to talk with your doctor beforehand, especially if you were using the pill to help with hormone levels. It may take a few months for your body to start ovulating, but you’ll know once your periods are happening on a regular basis.

7 – Track your ovulation. You can use an Ovulation Calculator to get a rough estimate of when you’re most fertile. If you want to be more exact, you’ll want to start charting your basal body temperature (BBT) and the changes in your cervical mucus. Tracking these symptoms over several months can help you figure out when you ovulate during each cycle. You can also do this with Ovulation Predictor Kits, which work by detecting hormones in your urine, or changes in chloride in your saliva or on your skin, that signal the start of ovulation.

8 – Pick up a Stork OTC from your local drugstore. The Stork OTC is a uniquely designed innovative device you use at home, during ovulation, to assist your chances of becoming pregnant. This FDA–cleared, over-the-counter device uses cervical cap insemination. This smart technique enables the sperm to quickly bypass the vaginal tract and places the sperm as close as possible to the opening of the cervix, right where it needs to be to swim up through.

More About the Stork OTC

The Stork® OTC is the only conception device FDA cleared over-the-counter for use at home that is designed to help you with becoming pregnant during your fertile window.

The Stork® OTC includes two familiar elements: a cervical cap inside of a condom-like sheath (the Conceptacle®) used to collect the sperm and an applicator device (the applicator) used to place the cap (similar to the delivery of a tampon).

After collecting the semen in the cap, the applicator efficiently and easily places it near the woman’s cervix. The cap stays in place, keeping the sperm where it needs to be, for up to six hours, while the woman continues her normal routine, then is easily removed with the attached cord, similar to tampon removal.

A recently published clinical study demonstrated that in 85% of subjects, The Stork OTC delivered 3.23 times the sperm score value within cervical mucus compared to natural intercourse and … presents a greater concentration of sperm to targeted cervical mucus than natural intercourse.

“Three times the sperm value is quite significant for so many couples, especially with the growth of male factor infertility. Understanding the growing value of semen for successful conception, and having a technology like The Stork® OTC that can deliver more sperm to the cervix than natural intercourse, this at-home conception kit may greatly impact many couples on their path to building a family. The Stork OTC makes sense.” ― Harry Reich, MD, FACOG, FRCOG.

Remember, you don’t need a prescription for the Stork OTC. You can purchase the Stork OTC at CVS, Walgreens, Target and these other retailers.
