Imagine this. You’re on vacation and headed for a great time, but then you start to wonder. Did I turn down the heat? Did I close your garage door? Is the front door locked? What if I told you that you didn’t have to wonder anymore and that you could monitor your home no matter where you were? That’s right – Notion makes it possible!

The home is dumb. Usually, we have no idea if it’s sprung a water leak until it’s too late or if it’s on fire if we’re not there. And for the 85% of us who don’t have expensive home security, it leaves us unprotected from intruders. In an age where many of us have computers in our pocket, it’s really time for our homes to smarten up! With Notion, the goal is to lower the access point to full home awareness.

What is Notion?

Notion is an all in on, sensor that can tell you if doors are open, your sink is leaking, or a smoke alarm is going off, all from your phone. So wherever you are in the world, you have access to all your home has to say. One of the best parts about Notion is that you don’t have to replace anything. You just add these small, Oreo shaped sensors and voila, your home can communicate with you.

How Does Notion Work?

Installation of Notion takes about 10 minutes. To start, plug in the bridge and connect it to Wifi. The bridge is the middleman between sensors and your phone. From there, take sensors (each one has 8 different sensors built in), and stick them to what you want to monitor. For example, if you’d like to know if your door has opened, or is open, stick a sensor to your door. Have a basement? Take a sensor down there to monitor both temperature and water leaks by placing the sensor next to your drain. It’s that simple.

Each sensor can do everything described so you don’t need specific sensors for specific use cases. You can also customize notifications to only receive them when you’re away, or at night, or for temperature sensors, only when it gets too hot or cold. There are even plans to integrate with Nest and IFTTT in the near future. Batteries last about 2 years with normal usage. AES 256-bit encryption for all data transfers between the bridge and sensors.

I love the idea of being alerted to leaks in my house. I one day came home to a flooded basement.

This would be great near my large fish tank to make sure it doesn’t have water leaks while I’m away. Great for the garage too as I always second guess whether I remembered to close it or not.
