I love planning parties and getting together with family or friends to enjoy food, drinks and good conversation. A successful party does require some planning though. You’ll want to consider the theme, date, guest list, party supplies, music, entertainment and food when planning your party. Check out these 7 Tips for Planning a Party.

7 Tips for Planning a Party

1 – Choose your theme. The first thing you want to consider is the theme of your party. Is it going to be a specific theme (i.e. Mardi Gras, Kentucky Derby, or holiday) or is it going to be just a casual get-together with family and friends?

2 – Create your guest list. A good rule of thumb is to either invite a large enough group to where everyone stands or a small enough group to where everyone sits. Anything in between gets kind of awkward. You’ll also want to consider who you invite, trying to ensure that the majority of your guests get along together.

3 – Select a date. One thing I learned is that it is virtually impossible to choose a date that works for everyone. It’s rare that this happens. Obviously, you won’t want to schedule the party on the same date as other parties or big events, so it will take a little bit of searching around to find out this information.

4 – Send out invites. You can either send out invitations via mail, email or through social media (ya know – like creating an event on Facebook). I personally prefer to create an event on Facebook and also text, call or email family and friends to confirm they received the invitation. I also call a few days before the party to remind them about the get-together and tell them I’m looking forward to seeing them again.

5 – Pick out your party supplies. If you are going with a specific theme for your party, you’ll want to start purchasing your goodies at least a month before the party. This helps ensure timely delivery of items that may need to be ordered online or through the party store. If you need tent structures, you may contact tent rental services.

6 – Remember that you’re the host. As a host, it’s your job to make sure everyone feels comfortable, has food and drink and is having a good time. Be sure to greet guests as they arrive to your party and mingle with guests throughout the party.

7 – Select foods that are friendly to your guests. I can’t tell you how many times I’ve hosted a party and spent a lot of time and effort on party catering and selecting food (especially desserts), just to find out that someone can’t eat it because it’s not a part of their meal plan. I feel so bad because I want everyone to enjoy the food and not feel like there is something they can’t eat. If you will be hiring a catering company, make sure to let them know of any dietary restrictions.
