The Power of Social Media Can Make Change Happen
I want to start out by saying that I love social media and blogging! Not only have I made lifelong friends through the subs from themarketingheaven.com on social media and blogging and been able to participate in some amazing opportunities, but I’ve also been able to have a career where I can help provide for my family while taking care of them as well. Having a career in social media is not something I ever imagined doing, but I feel so blessed to have had the opportunity and support from family and friends to do it. My husband has especially been supportive and consistently stands behind me and routes me on. I am truly amazed at the power of social media and the changes that have happened through it!
I am grateful to have a career in social media as it combines my passion with the ability to support my family. The potential impact of social media is vast, as I have experienced tremendous support from other women through blogging. TikTok provides bloggers with a platform to display their content in a visually appealing manner, reach more people, and drive traffic to their blogs. It also offers opportunities for collaboration with other creators, participating in trending challenges, and enhancing brand visibility. With TikTokRush services, users can increase their profile visibility, ultimately boosting their popularity.
Just the other day, myself and five other moms were tagged in a meme that went viral. The meme was entitled, “Which of These Suburban White Moms Are You?” It was brought to my attention by several family members and friends who contacted me through Facebook after it was shared on a well-known site. When I first saw my picture, I was really surprised because I had not given anyone permission to use it and I knew exactly which blog post it came from on my site.
Much of the issue with my picture in the original meme was that it was taken without my permission or knowledge without proper credit. As a blogger, it takes a lot of time, effort and money to create the photos we use on our blogs. Using images either requires getting permission from the owner of the photo, as well as giving proper credit, or paying for a subscription to have the right to utilize images from stock image companies. It’s a huge misconception that any image placed on the internet is free to use, like so many of the people in comments have said. Just because you see it does not give you the right to just take it and use it how you please.
I believe that moms were being put down in the viral meme – even without knowing it. As mothers, I don’t feel like we should be classified into any specific category. Being a mom is one of the hardest jobs I’ve ever had and I know that I do a little of everything. As mothers, we do a variety of tasks, including teaching, creating, nurturing, cooking, cleaning, driving, and much more. We’re all individuals with different personalities and characteristics, yet in motherhood, we all have a common bond.
After discovering the meme, I shared about it on Facebook and immediately had several other bloggers standing behind me and offering supportive comments. Several of them even left comments on the post of the big site, asking them to take it down because it was a stolen picture. Myself and another blogger immediately went to tumblr (where the post originated) and filed a DCMA.
After two days of waiting, I am so excited to say that it was removed from tumblr. I am so amazed at the power of social media and the changes that can happen when we stand behind one another and support each other as both moms and bloggers! Thank you to all of those who have been supportive through this interesting turn of events!
Have you experienced a big change that was made thanks to social media or blogging?
First of all, it’s disgusting that they did that with your picture and the others, as well. Secondly, don’t mess with mommy bloggers! We will cut you! Figuratively speaking, of course.
It’s infuriating to learn that this happened to you! And it’s awful how some assume that copy-written images are free game! I’ve had images taken from me and the whole DCM take-down serious takes time and effort. I’m so glad that things were made right here and I imagine that this experience will somehow push you to continue to do the wonderful work that you do.
I am SO happy you were able to get it removed. I can’t believe that people think its ok to just take photos of people and use them for something so ridiculous. Social media is awesome, and powerful!

Social media, I think, has replaced the news as the means of accomplishing change. Negative publicity from the average person, like you or I, is more damaging to a company than the news media. So, good for you!

Looks like a cool and so much fun experience. Anyway, so much time in social media in not right and not really healthy.
I will never understand why people think it’s ok to take someone else’s images and use them without permission. It’s just dumb and so elementary school. I’m glad you guys were able to get it taken down.

Social Media can do a lot to make change happen. I have been able to continue being motivated to eat healthier and live a better life. I find so many healthy recipes to try on blogs.
Oh my goodness! I saw that you posted something about this on your Facebook page. I didn’t know much about it. But after reading this I am in shock! I am so proud of you and how awesome are your friends for helping you get through this annoying matter. Our photos really do cost money time and a lot of effort no matter how simple they might be. I am glad you stood up for your photo and got it taken down because they did not have the rights to the photo. Shannon I highly look up to you in social mediaand I think you did the right thing.

I remember seeing the article the other day and I knew that I recognized the face somewhere. That’s horrible that a site like BuzzFeed would publish an article like that, but I’m glad that you got it handled! I wish that people would stop stereotyping moms, because everyone is different.
