Our family loves to go to the movies! There is just something about sitting in the movie theater seats, eating popcorn, drinking soda and watching a movie together with surround sound on a really big screen. The clarity of the picture, the crystal clear sound and the crowd enjoying the movie together makes it a memorable experience. It’s something I loved doing as a kid and still love doing as an adult – with our own kids now!

On March 18th, The Divergent Series: Allegiant was released in theaters. I honestly couldn’t wait to see it because I loved the other two movies in the series. After seeing it, I really wish there was another novel to base a fourth movie on. It was a really good movie and I really enjoyed it a lot! Like many series, the first one is most often the best of the series. Too often, the second or third are just not that good. That was definitely NOT the case with The Divergent Series: Allegiant! I loved the action, the special effects (although some of them were a little slower than others), and the actors – making it all together a really good movie!

Review of The Divergent Series: Allegiant

What’s the story: Allegiant is the third movie (based on the novel written by Veronica Roth) in the Divergent Series. In Allegiant, we follow Tris (Shailene Woodley) and Four (Theo James) into a new world, far more dangerous than before. After the earth-shattering revelations of Insurgent, Tris must escape with Four and others, going beyond the wall that encloses the city of Chicago, where they live. For the first time ever, they will leave the only city and family they’ve ever known. Once outside the wall, they discover shocking new truths and a world they never knew existed. Tris and Four must quickly decide who they can trust as a battle begins beyond the walls of Chicago which threatens all of humanity. In order to survive, Tris is forced to make difficult choices about courage, allegiance, sacrifice and love.

What parents may like about this movie: The movie had a lot of action-filled parts in it, but nothing too terrible or gruesome. I liked that Tris and Four worked together as a family and looked out for one another, as well as those who couldn’t help themselves. I also liked that Tris stood up for what was right and Four was right there to support her (something I hope all our kids will look for in their significant others someday).

Violence / Scare Factor: There really weren’t any jump scares, but there was violence in the movie. There were a few parts where people were shot with guns, but it was insinuated, rather than seeing it actually happen (i.e. gun pointed at man and then camera focuses on someone else and you hear a gun shot).

Positive themes: The actors worked together as a team to save the city of Chicago (and the world). Tris stood up for what was right once she discovered the truth. They fought to help others who couldn’t help themselves.

Sex/Romance: There was at least one kiss, but nothing crazy. There was a scene where Tris was walking into the shower and you see the outline of her body, but nothing crazy. There is also a part where Four is in the shower and you see the upper part of his body, but nothing more than that.

Bad language: If there was any, I didn’t notice it.

Too much talking … I think this basically a transition movie for the last one. But the story is so true about human being. There is always something that we may not agree to no matter where we go.
