Growing up, I was teased…a lot. I was teased for my red hair, for my fair skin, for my freckles, for my crooked teeth, for my skinny figure and more. When we think of bullying, often times we think of punching, pushing or other physical actions. However, bullying is more than the physical – it’s also the emotional. Now that I have children of mine, I want to do everything I can to both protect and empower them. I want them to feel smart, important, beautiful (both inside and out). I want them to be comfortable being who they are.

We all know that being a tween/teen girl can be tough (from acne and first-date agony to more serious issues, such as bullying) and Dearfoams wants to help our tweens and teens feel comfortable in their own skin. Dearfoams has partnered with STOMP Out Bullying™, the leading national anti-bullying and cyberbullying organization for kids and teens in the United States. To support its anti-bullying mission, Dearfoams is donating $100,000 to STOMP Out Bullying™ and asking tweens/teens and parents to participate by generating photos and stories on the #BeComfortableBeYou hashtag that encourage teen/tweens to feel comfortable being who they are.

When talking to our daughters about bullying, I asked them what advice they had for their peers. They both agreed that they would encourage their peers to be proud to be themselves and to not be afraid of what others might think if you’re different. I’m so proud of them and the young women they’ve become. I hope that we can all help STOMP Out Bullying together!

Be sure to check out Dearfoam’s new collection of Young & Fun slippers for teens/tweens. Our daughters and I received slippers from the line and love them! Not only are they comfortable, but they are super cute as well! By purchasing Dearfoams slippers and using the #BeComfortableBeYou hashtag, you can show your support too! Help spread the word that it’s better to be kind. To learn more about the partnership, follow @Dearfoams and @STOMPOutBullyng.

What advice would you give to tweens and teens about bullying?

My only advice is to try to ignore it and to try to have enough confidence in yourself to know that you are amazing. Most of the bully kids don’t have that inner confidence so they have to try to put others down. Be Strong!

  2. Catherine S says:

These look like nice slippers. My advice would be to try to avoid the bully and make sure they tell an adult.

  3. Robin (Masshole Mommy) says:

I love this campaign! And doing it with some comfy slippers is all kinds of awesome.

  4. I love this! Dearfoams are my favorites anyway. Now I can have cozy footsies and help those in need.

  5. Cynthia R says:

The sad thing is there many adult bullies out there. It’s not just kids.

  6. My daughter was bullied for many years, so this is a subject I know all too well. I would tell anyone struggling to find someone they can talk to. And also, it will get better.

  7. Liz Mays says:

This is an awesome message. Those slippers look super comfy too. I’d love to help stomp out bullying.

  8. Jeanette says:

I was bullied a lot when I was a kid, for me I was comfortable in my skin so I just ignored them for the most part, but there are times it would come through and I would feel hurt. I guess the best thing you can do is know who you are and be proud of that no matter what people say.

  9. Pam says:

I love Dearfoams slippers! I buy a new pair every winter. My kids were bullied for a while so this is a subject I am passionate about.

Just love this idea they are doing. Awesome and important cause.

I love this collaboration and think we all need to be more conscious about the things we say to and about other people. I tell my tweens that bullies only talk down to others because they secretly feel bad about themselves. I also encourage my kids to bring any type of issues to my attention immediately.

  13. Valerie says:

This is a great campaign. I love Dearforms slippers. They are so comfy.

  14. Theresa says:

I love that Dearforms is trying to shed more light on the subject of bullying. Great campaign and great slippers! I’ll be buying both of my teen daughters a pair for Christmas this year!

  15. Chasing Joy says:

My advice would be to stand up for and defend yourself. Bullies usually pick easy targets.

  16. Liz Mays says:

That’s a hugely generous donation they’re giving and to such a great cause. It seems like bullying touches everyone somehow these days.

  17. Reichel says:

Ahhh dearfoams are a classic. I remember my Mom buying them for me when I was a kid. AND what an awesome cause! Love it.

Bullying is multi-faceted. You’re doing a great job raising strong and confident daughters. I try to share positive affirmations with my kids, plus strategies for dealing with bullies.

  20. What a great way to rause awareness about bulying. I have a pair of dearfoam house slippers and love them!

  21. Karen says:

My advice is to let them know it’s safe for them to talk to you, and that you will take action to get the situation resolved. I also let them know they should speak up if they see it happening to someone else, and since mine are so close in age, they look out for each other.

  22. Melissa says:

I love these slippers, boy they look comfy! What a great cause too, bullying is a huge problem everywhere and it’s clear that educators are having a hard time dealing with it.

i used to hate the saying “stick and stones may break your bones but names will never hurt you”. it’s not true, words hurt. my advice is to know who you are and be confident with that.

  26. Nile says:

The mocassin type slippers look really comfy. It’s great that they are behind a great cause too. I know some people that might like to look at these and buy them to support such a cause. 🙂

  27. Corina Ramos says:

My son was bullied in the 6th grade, this was many years ago. The advice I gave him was to be proud of who he is and not let anyone take his confidence away. I also reminded him of all the support he has and if he needed anyone to talk to he had plenty of people who loved him and would be willing to hear him out.

  28. Anjanette says:

  34. Kim Vigil says:

When they were young, we taught our children to be gentle and kind. We taught them to appreciate people for their individuality and not make fun of their differences. Today they are older (10 & younger) and now we teach them that they don’t have to impress anybody, that people have to impress them. We teach them that they can choose their friends and if their friends treat them poorly that they don’t have to be friends with them. I’m proud to say that they have actually severed ties with kids who they felt didn’t share those sane ideals. We teach them to be the leaders and set good examples. We’re all human , we all will make mistakes but I think by instilling these ideas from a young age, it breeds confidence. They stand up to the bullies and don’t allow the bullies to win.
