Power Up and Read with the Scholastic Summer Reading Challenge #SummerReading
It’s hard to believe that summer is almost here! When I was a young girl, I remember signing up for the reading challenges at our local library. We would go to the library and sign up to read so many books during the summer. My sisters and I would keep a reading log of the books we read and once we reached a certain number of books, we would head back to the library and redeem our prizes. In the end, we would walk away from the program reading a bunch of great books and a brand new book of our own to take home with us. It was pretty awesome!
Now things are a little easier – thanks to Scholastic! Our kids are participating in the Scholastic Summer Reading Challenge this summer. You can sign up your family for the Scholastic Summer Reading Challenge here and utilize the various Scholastic printables such as reading certificates, log sheets, pledges, booklists, and more, to guide your summer reading efforts.
This year’s challenge theme is “Power Up & Read,” encouraging kids to read all summer long and unlock 12 original short stories by bestselling children’s authors as kids reach reading milestones. Scholastic has joined together with ENERGIZER® to power the Summer Reading Challenge and encourage families to find innovative ways to discover the power and joy of reading. Parents can sign up kids beginning May 4, 2015 and runs through September 4, 2015.
Energizer® and Scholastic are partnering to create the “Power the Possibilities” campaign which gives moms the tools they need to unlock their child’s talents, fuel their ambitions and set them up for future success. Starting May 4, 2015, parents can buy any specially marked pack of Energizer® brand batteries to scratch for a chance to win one of thousands of prizes that will power discovery and learning.
Prizes include a family trip to New York City, a Scholastic Study Corner Makeover, a tablet with Scholastic apps, a library of Scholastic books and more! Everyone who plays can also download free digital stories for their family.

How fun is this! I also remember singing up for the reading challenges at my local library when I was little. It was such a blast. I’m glad to see they are still doing things like this. It’s so important to get kids interested in reading <3
This is such a great challenge for kids! They should also have challenges like these for adults too! 🙂 I remember these type of challenges back when I was younger too!! Awesome share! I can’t wait to get my niece into reading challenges like this-she’s 1. 🙂
Sounds like a great reading program and challenge and I still remember the first reading program I participated in when I was little through our local library! What a a great idea and thanks for sharing!
I live in a super small town and we never had reading challenges. I think anything that gets kids reading is a great idea though, especially during the summer months when there is no school. It keeps their skills sharp.
I always liked Scholastic Books. Kids have to stay busy reading during summer, so this is a good challenge. Thank you for sharing this.
Anything that will get your child reading is a big plus. While I would prefer them to have actual books at least when they are starting put I also realize that reading on an electronic devise is in all our futures. I just hope real books never totally go away!
This program definitely has the ability to get your kids excited about reading during the summer. There are so many fun ways to incorporate reading into summer break.
awesome. My little ones would love this. They love to be read to (they’re still little)
I’m so glad you shared this. As a former Reading Specialist, I am always looking for fun reading programs to introduce my boys to. Thanks so much for sharing and happy summer!
We love scholastic books!!! My daughter gets the book orders in preschool. This sounds like a pretty awesome reading challenge. Love things that motivate kiddos to do educational stuff in a fun way 🙂
I love any program that gets kids reading in the summer!! I had not heard of this one before, sounds great!
My daughter has four children at home this summer and I’m sure she’ll be very happy to hear about this program, and I cannot wait to tell her. ~hehehehe~
This brings back memories! I am so glad Scholastic is still around. It was always so much fun on book fair days to get something new to read.
Anything that can help me keep the kids reading over the summer is welcome help! I love the idea of the program and I find that our 8 year old is really into this.
This sounds like a fantastic challenge for kids to participate in. I think it’s so important for them to keep reading throughout the summer.
My son loves reading, especially anything that has to do with history or science. My youngest hasn’t developed a love for reading yet, though.
