Hiking Challenge – Fiscalini Ranch, Cambria
What a way to end 2014! On Christmas day, Russel and I decided to get out and drive…just drive…find our own little adventure. Being kid-free this year it was easy for us to be on the go with no plans or expectations.
For those of you who know me, I am always up for a hike, with Russel it usually takes a bit more convincing. So when we headed out, it wasn’t with the anticipation of finding a hike. We just happened upon one. Taking a drive up Hwy 1, we came to Cambria, which is a lovely coastal town. We followed signs to the beach and found ourselves at Fiscalini Ranch Preserve. Nice wide-open spaces with neatly manicured pathways. We saw couples with strollers, young kids riding bikes with their parents, the elderly out on a stroll – all age groups.
There were several pathways and routes to venture out on, but we stuck to the main one. With limited light left in the day and the frigid wind blowing on us, we were not prepared to adventure out as much as we would have liked. We will save that for a return trip with the kids. We could see easily accessible tide pools that I definitely want to explore.
After walking through the fields, the view from the cliffs was breathtaking! We saw sea otters, sea lions, and a ton of birds out playing in the waves. Little did I know that Russel speaks sea lion. As I’m trying to take pictures of them he starts making noises and all of a sudden the white one looks directly at us and started talking back. Made for a good picture and lots of laughs.
I couldn’t imagine a better way of ending our Christmas day then watching a beautiful sunset at the beach with a wonderful man.
My thoughts:

Distance: 1.89 Miles

Worth It? Absolutely! Kid, stroller, elderly friendly
