This Christmas was an awesome one!  One of the gifts that Frank and I bought for ourselves was a Blackstone 1575 Outdoor Oven.  It is awesome!!!!  The pizzas we’ve baked on it have turned out so delicious.  Not to mention the fact that it only takes 3 minutes to cook.  Yes – that’s what I said – 3 minutes!

We found a great deal at Trader Joe’s on pizza dough.  It was only $1.29 per package and we used one package per person.  We also purchased some pizza sauce, but I definitely bought too many.  Note to self – you don’t need to buy one pack of sauce per person because one pack of sauce fed 5 people.  Got it for next time – ha ha!

Frank was really good at shaping the dough and so were the kids, but mine for some reason just wouldn’t go into a circle.  Oh well, all that really matters are the toppings on it, right?  I mean there are round pizzas, square pizzas and triangle pizzas, right?  Ok…maybe not triangle pizza, but homemade is still the best!

Once the pizzas were rolled out, it was time to put on toppings.  We spooned on the pizza sauce (a little more for the parents than the kids).  Then we added lots of shredded mozzarella cheese, pepperoni, salami and sausage.  The sausage was my favorite topping!  I used Johnsonville Ground Italian Sausage for our pizza toppings.  Then I topped it off with shredded mozzarella cheese.  One word for you – AMAZING!!!!

Once we had the toppings on our pizzas, it was time to take each one out to the Blackstone Pizza Oven to be cooked.  The temperature of the oven was over 400°F and it took anywhere from 3-5 minutes to cook.  We used an Kitchen Supply 14-Inch x 16-Inch Aluminum Pizza Peel with Wood Handle to put the pizzas onto the stone in the oven.  To prevent them from sticking to the peel, we used a combination of flour and corn meal.  This combination made it easy for the pizza to slide off onto the stone in the oven.  The crust was beautiful and the cheese looked amazing!  We had a lot of pizza and a lot of pizza leftovers!  I can’t wait until we make these again!!!

We had 5 different pizzas when we were done!  One was with only cheese.  Two were with cheese, pepperoni and sausage.  Two were with cheese, pepperoni, salami, sausage and olives.  They were all so yummy!  This is definitely something we’re going to do again as a family…very soon!!!
