Kid-Approved: Grandma Debbie’s Round Steak Recipe
With 6 kids in our family, it’s often hard to find a recipe that everyone enjoys. Usually there is someone who doesn’t like something. So, I have decided to create a series of blog posts giving you tested and true recipes we use in our big family – that the kids love! The first recipe in this series is for Round Steak and Rice.
Let me give you a little background before I dig into the recipe. This was my favorite recipe my mom made for me when I was a child (hence why it’s called Grandma Debbie’s Round Steak Recipe). In fact, this is what I always asked her to make for my birthday dinner! She would make it with Round Steak and serve it over rice with broccoli (topped with mayonnaise of course). With 6 kids, we’ve found ways to stretch the budget. Instead of using Round Steak or Sirloin Steak, I like to use Stew Meat. It is still tender and about half the price! 1 for mommy saving money in the grocery budget! Even though I don’t actually use Round Steak, I still call it Round Steak – ya know, it’s a family tradition and all. While I may change the type of meat, I just can’t justify changing the title.
I made Round Steak with Rice and Broccoli tonight and 2 children had 3 servings, 3 children had 2 servings and 1 child had 1 serving. Both grownups had 2 servings. Everyone walked away from the dinner happy and full! So are you ready for the recipe now? Ok then, let’s get down to business!
GRANDMA DEBBIE’S ROUND STEAK RECIPE
Ingredients:
– 2 or 3 pounds Stew Meat (or Round Steak or Sirloin Steak)
– 4 tbsp. Butter
– Lawry’s Seasoning Salt
– 3 cans Campbell’s Beef Consommé Soup
– 1/4 bottle Lea & Perrins Worcestershire Sauce
Directions:
1 – Cut up the stew meat into smaller, bite-size pieces. I like to trim the fat from the meat.
2 – Melt butter in a pan. Add meat and brown.
3 – Add Seasoning Salt and then turn the meat.
4 – Add Beef Consommé Soup and Worcestershire Sauce.
5 – Cook and simmer for 45 minutes.
6 – Serve over Uncle Ben’s White Rice (meat on top and pour broth over) with Steamed Broccoli (topped with mayonnaise).
Yummy!!!!!! that looks really good, I think I’ll try this recipe, it looks really easy to do.
I will have to try this recipe this next weekend when my granddaughter comes to stay. She likes all types of meat so I think this would be a wonderful recipe she would like.
Ohh this really sounds good. I know my family would enjoy this, we will have to try it.
