Let’s Stand Together and Prevent Breast Cancer!
I hate cancer! I know it sounds blunt and straight forward, but I hate it! It doesn’t matter what type of cancer it is, I hate what it does to those I love. If there is a cancer that is preventable, why wouldn’t we do it? Why wouldn’t we do the self-check breast exams or the mammograms in our late 30s? Maybe it’s because we don’t have health insurance or we have a busy schedule or maybe it’s just because we don’t want to.
While breast cancer does not run in my family, I have had family and friends who were affected by it and it affected me. My grandmother on my stepmom’s side had breast cancer and ultimately lost the battle to it. It was hard watching her suffer and slowly get worse and worse. She lost her hair, didn’t feel well and ultimately suffered from it. I grew up hoping I would never get it myself. Knowing that it’s preventable gives me the desire to do what I can to prevent it. This includes regular self-check breast exams and then mammograms when I turn 39.
October is National Breast Cancer Awareness Month and this year, Hanes is teaming up with the National Breast Cancer Foundation (NBCF) to help generate awareness among women about the importance of receiving mammograms. As a part of this effort, Hanes will be donating $50,000 to the National Breast Cancer Awareness Foundation. I am excited to be teaming up with them to spread the word about the importance of preventing breast cancer.

My favorite aunt had breast cancer. It’s a cause that’s close to my heart due to that.
I have a couple of friends who have battled breast cancer. It’s such a horrendous disease. I can’t wait until the day that we eliminate it altogether.

This summer I found a lump – I had test and a biopsy and thank goodness it was not cancer. Self checking and yearly mammograms save lives.

I’ve had all types of cancer surround me, and a scare with breast cancer. Cancer is such an evil disease and so heart breaking for so many.

I’m blessed to say that I haven’t but I do worry about it. It’s a good cause to stand behind.
It doesn’t run in our family, knock on wood. Other kinds of cancers do though, so I really appreciate the huge initiative for breast cancer. It lays the groundwork for other kinds of cancer research to follow suit, and it’s so helpful too… for the way too many people who are directly (and indirectly) affected by Breast Cancer.

Breast cancer is becoming so common it’s sickening. Cancer is horrible and I’m so sad for all those who fight that battle.
I’ve had a couple of friends that had breast cancer and beat it. Raising awareness and making testing free or inexpensive would help a lot of people get diagnosed earlier.

I hate cancer too. I wish there was no such thing. My grandmother had a few kinds over the years and beat them, but finally she got colon cancer at 93 and it took her.
