5 Tips for Keeping Your Kids Safe On Halloween Night

Zombies, ghosts, princesses and super heroes and more will be knocking on your doors in a few weeks, celebrating the fun that is Halloween!  Some of us will be at our doors anxiously waiting to greet our trick-or-treaters with candy and other treats, while others of us will be walking around the neighborhoods with our kids in costumes.  As parents, we want our kids to have fun on Halloween, but we also want to keep them safe.  Here are 5 Tips for Keeping Your Kids Safe This Halloween.

5 Tips for Keeping Your Kids Safe on Halloween Night

1 – Talk to your kids about Halloween Safety before going out at night.  If kids don’t know what the rules are, it will be a lot harder for them to stay safe at night.  They need our guidance.  So be sure to sit down with your little ones for a brief chat on the importance of Halloween Safety and set some guidelines for them to follow.

2 – Walk safely.  Most trick-or-treating takes place at night, so staying on sidewalks and paths is important to staying safe.  It’s even better if the sidewalks or paths are well-lit.  Put electronic devices down and cross.  With the increased usage of electronic devices, both parents and children should put their electronic devices down and pay attention when crossing the street.  Be sure to cross at corners and walk (don’t run) across the street.

3 – Drive safely.  Just as we want others to be safe on the road as our children are out and about trick-or-treating, we should do the same.  Keep a close lookout for trick-or-treaters who may dart into the road and drive slower than normal.

4- Trick-or-Treat with an Adult.  It’s important that kids trick-or-treat with an adult (up to what age is based on personal preference).  If your kids are older, you might consider having them trick-or-treat in groups in areas they are familiar with.
