When you have a child, you want the very best for your babies.  When you have a pet, that pet is just like a child and you want the best for your pet, just like you do your children.  We want to give our cats food just like we do our kids.  The foods should taste and smell good, as well as help them grow healthy and strong.  Thanks to Rachael Ray, we can now give our cats the healthy cat food they deserve!

CHICKEN, BACON & BROWN RICE SOUP

INGREDIENTS:

– 1 1/2 sticks butter
– 1 large onion, chopped
– 3 cups chopped celery
– 2 cups sliced mushrooms
– 1/4 cup all-purpose flour
– Salt and pepper to taste
– 2 1/2 cups whole milk (I used 2% and it was fine)
– 1 1/2 cups half-and-half
– 2 cups brown rice, cooked
– 3 cups chicken, cooked and shredded
– 1/2 pound bacon, cooked and torn up

DIRECTIONS:

In a large pan, melt one stick of butter and add onions, celery, and mushrooms.  Cook the vegetables until they’re tender.  In a large saucepan, melt the remaining butter and add the flour, salt, and pepper – blending together.  Cook for 1 minute, stirring constantly.  Slowly add the milk and half-and-half.  Cook over medium heat until thickened, stirring constantly.  Add the mushroom mixture, cooked rice, shredded chicken and cooked bacon.  Simmer for approximately 15 to 20 minutes.
