I have great memories of my school days.  I remember going on field trips and having parties.  I remember writing on the chalk board (and then the white board as I went into junior high).  I remember the PTA meetings my mom would go to and the events they would put together.  Events included Fall Carnivals (I remember the cake walk and Go Fish games with the fishing poles), Halloween Costume Parades, Santa’s Workshop (where we shopped for gifts for our families) and more!  There was so much that the PTA did for our schools when I was growing up. However, due to the pandemic many children don’t get to experience this, but luckily there are Online Elementary School programs that let children interact with their school system at a distance.

Today I look at schools and the lack of funding really affects the lack of events such as the ones I described above.  My boys haven’t experienced Fall Carnivals, Halloween Costume Parades or Santa’s Workshop.  Funding is barely there for music and art, yet alone extra activities in the classroom.  The activities that do happen take place in the classrooms and are made possible by the teachers and parents – both of whom supply the items and funds to make it happen.  I wish our kids had the opportunities like I had in school for art, music and more.

Well, guess what?  There is a way we can give back to our schools that are in need!  Thanks to Schoola, we can purchase clothes for our kids for the back-to-school season, as well as have a portion of the proceeds going to schools in need.  Schoola is an online consignment store dedicated to recycling brand-name children’s clothes and has been heralded by Fox News, the LA Times, Forbes and Parenting Magazine.

You can use Schoola two different ways: Getting the most out of school

1 – Shop on Schoola – First, you can shop on Schoola.  For every transaction purchased from this post on The Mommy-Files, Schoola will donate $1 to KIPP Academy.  KIPP Academy has a goal of $25,000 to fund their music program.  So each $1 donated by Schoola will go towards this goal, which is pretty dang awesome!  Let me tell you a little more about KIPP Academy.

KIPP Academy is a small school in the Bronx that works hard to support kids who need all the help they can get.  Ninety-five percent of its students qualify for free or reduced-cost lunch.  More than one in seven receives special education services.  Music helps KIPP Academy reach and engage every child child who enters its doors.  The slogan on the Music Room wall sets the stage – All of Us Will Learn Music.  No matter what backgrounds they come from or what challenges they face, they learn lessons together that will serve them the rest of their lives.

2 – Request a Schoola Donation Bag – You can also request a Schoola donation bag.  For every person who requests a Schoola donation bag HERE, Schoola will donate $1 to KIPP Academy.  Plus, when you donate your clothes and fill out your school’s information, $2 of every $5 made will go back to the school you chose to support.

Through August 20th, you can save 20% on your purchases with Schoola.  Simply use the code BacktoSchoola20.  Please note there is a limit of one use per customer.

  1. I completely agree with you on the lack of funding these days for kids. When my sister and I were growing up we experienced all those things you mentioned-we loved our Spring carnival (complete with cake walk and go fish games as well), classroom holiday parties, Halloween parades, field trips, etc. It’s sad that kids these days don’t get half of that!

I’m so thankful that my kids are at a school that doesn’t have funding worries, but there are too, too many schools that do. This seems like a great way to help out.

  3. What a cool post! I remember having baked sales in school but even nowadays those aren’t allowed.

  4. This sounds like an amazing campaign! I love anything that helps children learn better and look more forward to going to school. Thanks for sharing.

Schoola sounds awesome if you ask me. I Love that they are giving back to the people that need it the most – the future of our country!

  6. Tracey says:

This is great that they are giving back to the people that need it most. Funding for schools always seems to be an issue and kids deserve a great education.

  7. Shell says:

Love what Schoola is doing. Our schools are in such dire need of any extra funding help they can get.

  8. I’m glad to hear about this. THe donation bag would be easy to fill!

Schoola looks like a great way to provide the much needed funding some schools need. Thanks for sharing.

  10. kristin says:

That is so true! Growing up we had so many fun events and field trips. My girls don’t get nearly as many activities or parties that’s why I try to help out in their classrooms and help with parties for holidays. I want my children to have those same memories. This sounds like a great way to give back. and help schools.

  11. This is a great idea to help fund programs! I love how they have the site broken down by size and by brand!

  12. Rosey says:

  13. Love Schoola and all the good things they represent. They truly make it easy for anyone to donate!

  14. What an awesome post! I had no idea about Schoola! Good to know, my son starts Pre-K tomorrow! I can’t wait to get involved in his schooling!

  15. Courtney says:

Kids are really shortchanged with the budget cuts that schools are experiencing. They don’t get the same level of interactivity that we did.

  16. I am very a fan of music programs. Such a great cause.

  17. Dawn says:

I remember when you could count on at least two field trips a year when you were in school. Now, they rarely happen if at all. It’s sad.

  18. Chrysa says:

This sounds like such a great program. It is such a shame that such essential parts of school like art and music aren’t funded. I’m glad this can help!

  19. Christie says:

So glad to see companies focusing on the importance of music in our schools! I hope this makes a strong push!

  20. I think it’s so cool that Schoola has this great program! Schools just don’t receive as much help as they need when it comes to money, so any little bit helps!

  21. Theresa says:

It makes me sad that educational funding is always the first to get cut. My kids don’t get to do the fun things we did in school either, and that’s a shame. I am glad there are opportunities like this for them to get funds though!

  22. My son had a lot of music in his high school, he was in choir for three hours a day, thought he would end up going to music school, he followed another passion.

  23. Can’t believe it’s back to school time already. Thanks for sharing! Loved music as a kid

  24. Erica says:

Schoola sounds really fantastic! I am definitely going to check it out! Our schools can certainly use all the help they can get!

  25. I remember these things too. It’s heartbreaking that so many students don’t get to experience these things. Glad Schoola is working to change that.

  26. Brett Martin says:

I love Schoola and what they’re doing for our children. Great program!

  27. Brett says:

What a great program! I’ve never heard of Schoola before.

  28. Debbie Denny says:

I just heard of Schoola recently. I think this is an awesome program to help schools.

  29. Jennifer says:

This is a great way to help out schools that are need. Thankfully, the school my kids go to don’t have any funding issues but you never know what could happen.

  30. Dina says:

I hate that they think to cut funds in the arts is where they should make cuts. The arts are where your brain fires up the most!

  31. With three kids, schoola is just what I need. I’m all about deals and helping others. It’s win, win!

  32. Felicia says:

I absolutely love this. You can give back and make a difference while doing something we all need to do.

  33. Kendra says:

Awesome. I’m requesting a bag. I hope they meet their goal. It’s a win for everyone.

  34. Katrina says:

This sounds great, I hate that schools have changed so much over the years, I remember growing up having parties and fairs for every occasion!
