I have great memories of my school days. I remember going on field trips and having parties. I remember writing on the chalk board (and then the white board as I went into junior high). I remember the PTA meetings my mom would go to and the events they would put together. Events included Fall Carnivals (I remember the cake walk and Go Fish games with the fishing poles), Halloween Costume Parades, Santa’s Workshop (where we shopped for gifts for our families) and more! There was so much that the PTA did for our schools when I was growing up.
Today I look at schools and the lack of funding really affects the lack of events such as the ones I described above. My boys haven’t experienced Fall Carnivals, Halloween Costume Parades or Santa’s Workshop. Funding is barely there for music and art, yet alone extra activities in the classroom. The activities that do happen take place in the classrooms and are made possible by the teachers and parents – both of whom supply the items and funds to make it happen. I wish our kids had the opportunities like I had in school for art, music and more.
Well, guess what? There is a way we can give back to our schools that are in need! Thanks to Schoola, we can purchase clothes for our kids for the back-to-school season, as well as have a portion of the proceeds going to schools in need. Schoola is an online consignment store dedicated to recycling brand-name children’s clothes and has been heralded by Fox News, the LA Times, Forbes and Parenting Magazine.
You can use Schoola two different ways: Getting the most out of school
1 – Shop on Schoola – First, you can shop on Schoola. For every transaction purchased from this post on The Mommy-Files, Schoola will donate $1 to KIPP Academy. KIPP Academy has a goal of $25,000 to fund their music program. So each $1 donated by Schoola will go towards this goal, which is pretty dang awesome! Let me tell you a little more about KIPP Academy.
KIPP Academy is a small school in the Bronx that works hard to support kids who need all the help they can get. Ninety-five percent of its students qualify for free or reduced-cost lunch. More than one in seven receives special education services. Music helps KIPP Academy reach and engage every child child who enters its doors. The slogan on the Music Room wall sets the stage – All of Us Will Learn Music. No matter what backgrounds they come from or what challenges they face, they learn lessons together that will serve them the rest of their lives.
2 – Request a Schoola Donation Bag – You can also request a Schoola donation bag. For every person who requests a Schoola donation bag HERE, Schoola will donate $1 to KIPP Academy. Plus, when you donate your clothes and fill out your school’s information, $2 of every $5 made will go back to the school you chose to support.
Through August 20th, you can save 20% on your purchases with Schoola. Simply use the code BacktoSchoola20. Please note there is a limit of one use per customer.
