As a blogger, I have the opportunity to learn about and work with a lot of different companies.  I love it when I come across a company who gives back to the community.  After all, the communities we grow up in end up shaping our lives in more ways than we realize.  As a child, we meet different adults through a variety of experiences, which mold us into the adults we become.  As parents, we instill these same community values in our children by continuing the tradition and encouraging them to participate in team, hoping those experiences will shape their lives just as ours were.

State Farm, a trusted name in insurance and finances for generations, wants to connect individuals and communities with local non-profits to build safer, better-educated communities with its Neighborhood Assist Program.  The Neighborhood Assist Program invites people to submit a cause that they’re passionate about and then receive the opportunity for possible funding towards this cause to help make a positive impact in their neighborhood.  That’s pretty dang cool!

The top 200 causes have been identified by the Youth Advisory Board and is live on the Neighborhood Assist App exclusively on Facebook.  Anyone who visits this app will be able to vote for their favorite cause until May 16, and the top 40 vote-receiving causes will each win $25,000!!!

To get a better understanding of the Neighborhood Assist Program, check out last year’s Grant Recipients in the video below.

There are so many great causes that you can vote for!  You get 10 votes each day and can either give 1 vote for a cause or “the remaining votes of the day” for a certain cause.  The causes that resonated with me were the “Preventing Homeless Veterans,” “Be….Safe,” and “Bring Joy to a Child.”  The Veterans cause resonates with me because my dad is a Vietnam Veteran and I would never want to see him end up on the streets with no help.  The other two stood out to me because I have children of my own and love that there is a cause to help those children out there who are in need.

Charity is important for everyone.  Not only is it beneficial to those who are receiving the help, but it’s also beneficial to the person who is helping the other person.  I was in Girl Scouts through most of my high school career and learned to volunteer in the community and help others.   Plus, when I was in high school, I volunteered with our church to feed the homeless on Skid Row in Los Angeles, California.  Those experiences helped shaped me into the woman I am today – striving to help those in need.

What cause would you vote for in the Neighborhood Assist App?  What way did you give back or volunteer in your community?

I participated in an Influencer Activation on behalf of Mom Central Consulting for State Farm. I received a promotional item to thank me for participating.
