It’s hard to believe that Spring is already here.  With Spring comes more trips to the doctor due to ear infections, colds, allergies, and more.  My kids have health insurance, but I don’t, so when it comes to going to the doctor, it can add up pretty fast.  Thanks to American Well, I can visit with a physician for only $49 or a nutritionist for $25.  That is a huge savings compared to what I would be paying out of pocket if I went straight into the doctor’s office!

I love how user-friendly the American Well site and phone app are to use.  All you need to do is log in and then start searching for a doctor near you.  If you don’t have an account, no worries because it’s easy to create an account.  Plus, you can count on your information being stored safely for future online visits.  Once logged in, I found doctors that included Family Physicians, Internists, Emergency Medicine and Nutritionists.  A list of doctors will come up and will say whether you can connect with them or not.

If you click on the doctor, you can learn more about the doctor before talking with him or her.  You’ll see his or her title, language spoken and amount of the copay.  You’ll also see an intro paragraph from the doctor, as well as the qualifications of the doctor.  Another aspect I like is the rating system.  You can read what other people have to say about the doctor based on their experiences and even leave your own rating and experience for others to read.

Once you get online with the doctor, your conversation will last about 10 minutes.  This is how long it takes to handle most problems, but you can add time if you need to.  Doctors can review your history, answer questions, diagnose, treat and even prescribe medication.  Plus, your prescriptions will be sent straight to the pharmacy!

American Well doctors are available 24 hours, 7 days a week, 365 days a year.  That is pretty awesome when you need a doctor now and don’t want to drive to the doctor’s office.  All you need is a smart phone, tablet or computer.  American Well is HIPAA-compliant, which means all of your health information will always be safe and available only to you and your doctor.  If you’d like to, you share your physician notes with your primary care physician, your pediatrician, or any specialist.  There are even many insurers who are beginning to cover these tele health visits for same or lesser co-pay than a traditional in-person visit.

You can try American Well for free by using coupon code “SPRING.”  The code is good for a year if you enroll by April 30th, 2014.

Have you used American Well before?  What do you like best about the service?
