I recently took the challenge with The Motherhood to make the swap from sugar to Splenda®.  I used Splenda® in my Iced Tea, my coffee and in my breakfast shakes!  Yep, that’s right!  Splenda® tastes great in breakfast shakes!

Did you know that just about anywhere you love sugar, you can use SPLENDA® No Calorie Sweetener?  It’s pretty amazing the number of things you can swap sugar for SPLENDA® in your daily life!  In fact, the SPLENDA® Brand has dished out 365 ways to swap sugar for SPLENDA® Sweetener Products.  That’s pretty dang amazing!

Experts recommend that we as women consume no more than 6 teaspoons of added sugar a day, yet the average American eats 22 teaspoons daily!  Yikes!  Most of us underestimate the amount of sugar we do eat because the sweet stuff is often times hiding in some of our favorite foods and beverages, such as vanilla lattes, fruit flavored yogurt, salad dressing and cereal.  Once we realize where the sugar is hiding, we can come up with ways to eliminate the excess sugar from our diets.

I decided that since it was Strawberry Season here on the Central Coast and Frank and I drink breakfast shakes in the morning, that I would create a Strawberry Shake using Splenda® rather than sweetened yogurt and added in sugar.  It turned out really yummy and was easy to make!

STRAWBERRY PROTEIN SHAKE W/ SPLENDA®

INGREDIENTS:

– 12 frozen strawberries
– 2/3 cup SPLENDA® No Calorie Sweetener, Granulated
– 1 1/2 cups orange juice
– 1 cup yogurt, plain, non-fat
– 1/2 teaspoon vanilla extract
– 1/4 cup vanilla protein powder
– 1 banana
– 1/4 cup peanut butter
– 10 ice cubes

DIRECTIONS:

Combine all ingredients in a blender.  Mix on low speed for 20 seconds.  Remove the lid and stir with a spoon.  Mix on medium speed for 30 seconds.  Remove the lid and stir again.  Please note that the mixture will be thick.  If you want a thinner consistency, add more juice.  Mix on high speed for another 30 seconds or until ingredients are combined.  Pour into glasses and serve immediately.  Enjoy!

I have used Splenda so many times and it is really delicious with no aftertaste and I would love to make your yummy Strawberry Shake. Splenda is very good to use for diabetics. My Dad just loves using this sweetener in his coffee. I also like the taste in my coffee.

I’ve tried to make the swap but I can still taste a difference that bothers me. Instead I have just lessened my sugar intake.
