Can you imagine going through life not being able to enjoy all the beautiful things around you?  Do you have to wear glasses or contact lenses and want a better solution?  Let me introduce you to Intra Lasik procedure and let’s compare the costs and benefits of contact lenses and glasses versus the LASIK procedure.

What are the costs of having Contact Lenses and Glasses?  (1) Refilling Prescriptions, (2) Lens Fitting, (3) Cost of Lens Solution, (4) Cost of Glasses (when your eyes need to rest), and (5) Cost of Lost Time (Applying contact lenses can take over 5 minutes out of your day – over 73 hours per year!).  What is the cost of LASIK?  A one time surgery.  That’s a big difference in the costs, right?

What are the Health Risks of Contact Lenses?  First is the risk of Bacterial Keratitis.  1 in 100 contact wearers of 30 years get this.  Second is the risk of Acanthamoeba – a red, painful eye infection caused by using tap water on your lenses or swimming in fresh water.  1 in 1000 contact wearers of 30 years get this.  Third is Vision Loss.  1 in 2000 contact wearers lose some vision due to bacterial infection.

What are the Benefits of a vision correction procedure?  First is Freedom from the burden of wearing glasses or putting in contact lenses.  Second is Lifestyle Improvement, such as being able to exercise and work without corrective lenses.  Third is Time Savings and avoiding the time lost on ordering new contacts and glasses.  Fourth is Cost Savings – you’ll save tons of thousands of dollars over your lifetime.

Is LASIK right for you?  Before deciding to have LASIK done, ask yourself these questions.  (1) Can you afford LASIK?  There are $0 down, 0% interest for 24 months financing packages available to help you take advantage of this procedure.  (2) What is the recovery time?  Post LASIK, most patients return to regular activities the day after their procedures.  Many even return to work the following day.  (3) Are you nervous about the procedure?  It isn’t uncommon for you to feel a sense of nervousness before the procedure.  Make sure you feel comfortable with your choice of LASIK practice before you move forward with your procedure and be sure to ask as many questions as you need.  (4) Are you a good candidate?  Before you spend too much time analyzing whether or not to go through with the procedure, find out first if you are a candidate.  This way you will have all the answers you need to make an intelligent decision.  Although LASIK saves you money in the long run, most health insurance will not cover refractive surgeries.  (5) Have you had a change in vision prescription in the past year?  If you have refractive instability, you should discuss your LASIK candidacy with your doctor.  (6) Do you have a medical condition that affects your vision?  Certain health conditions (autoimmune diseases, immunodeficiency states, diabetes) may prevent you from healing properly after surgery.  (7) Do you have other risk factors?  Glaucoma, Keratoconus, Blepharitis, large pupils, thin corneas, dry eyes, or previous refractive surgery.  If you have any of these, please consult your eye doctor for further analysis.

I would love to have LASIK surgery. My dad had it done and liked the results. Maybe one day, insurance will help pay for it.
