Finding Myself in My Blog

The Mommy-Files

Over the past year, I have seen my blog grow and blossom.  I’ve had the opportunity to travel, serve as an Ambassador, attend conferences and work with companies that I love and products that I use on a regular basis.  Somehow though, I’ve lost a little bit of that woman who was behind The Mommy-Files.  Not that I disappeared, but my voice was quieted amidst product reviews, giveaways and paid campaigns.  I will still be sharing my thoughts on products I use, Ambassadorships I participate in, places I travel and recipes/crafts/art I create.  However, I will be sharing more of Shannon Gosney on The Mommy-Files.

The Mommy-Files

I have made a resolution that 2014 will be the year I find myself again in my blog.  Writing on my personal experiences as a woman, a mother, a stepmother, a fiancé, a sister, a daughter, an aunt and a writer.  Yes, I do consider myself a writer, as well as an artist.  I am a creator of beauty, ideas, art, meals, and more!

In 2015, I will be marrying my best friend!  I never imagined being so happy after the challenging few years I had.  I always wanted 4-6 kids and now I have 6 kids (half of with which I experienced childbirth).  I never imagined doing something I loved so much and providing for my family at the same time.  I never imagined working with a company who gives me the opportunity to grow in my career and who feels like a second family.

I look back at past posts on The Mommy-Files and see how I talked about my lack of sleep when my boys were babies.  I talked about my job as a mom and a blogger.  I  shared important moments and feelings on my blog and kept a sort of living journal on The Mommy-Files.  I became a public figure in the eyes of those who read and visited my blog.  I became The Mommy-Files (a name people recognized when they met me in real life at events).

Well, I’m back and you will see a whole lot more of me in 2014.  I am so excited about this New Year’s Resolution and thank each and every one of you for your continued support and enthusiasm.  I truly appreciate the comments you leave on my blog as well as the words of support and encouragement you send me personally.  Thank you so much everyone!  Happy New Year to all of us!

  1. Good for you Shannon! I am doing the same thing! I lost my voice over the last year all due to the reviews. While I love doing them, I love sharing more about me and my life, so I have to find a way to balance it 🙂

Congrats on getting back to you!

I can so relate. I plan on writing for the sake of writing more this coming year, too. I’m also going to take more time for family. I’m a work in progress, but I’m getting there. 🙂 Good luck to you and I hope 2014 is a wonderful year for you!

I can totally relate. I didn’t get a chance to do many personal posts last year because I was going to school full time and trying to keep my blogs going too. I look forward to your posts this year and glad I got to meet you in real life a couple months ago. 🙂

You go, Shannon! I think this is a great resolution! 🙂 Thanks for being an inspiration to me.

  5. The same thing happened to me over the last year – it’s so easy to lose yourself in the business. I am slowing way down on reviews this year and will focus more on my passions. It’s nice to hear I’m not the only one feeling this way 🙂

I remember reading way back then! What I like about your blog though is you havent gotten so ‘big’ that you forget about your readers. You comment or tweet back and thats refereshing, So many of the big blogs (or those who think they are ) forget without readers and interation you might as well have a journal and close comments.
I will be looking forward to hearing more about you again this yeat!
*but admittedly I also do like your contests please keep doing them)

I’m glad you’re back, Shannon! I think a lot of us found ourselves lost and caught up in that other stuff. Here’s to a fabulous 2014!

Am looking so forward to reading more! I was so excited to hear about your engagement. For me, I see your family as more of the American family. I gave birth to all 6 of our kids, but my husband is a step parent to 3. It is interesting to see how in ALL ways people are family! It is not without joy and craziness, learning and chaos. But mostly joy. It is always there in the very deepest parts of our soul. It is just so amazing to see you so happy and know that we get to see some of the details on your blog. Yay for 2014. I am expecting a great year…there is only one way to go for me and it is UP!

  18. What a great post – and a good reminder to not lose ourselves as we blog. Thanks for your honesty and candidness. It’s refreshing and so genuine. I’m going to enjoy following your blog this year.

  19. Terra Heck says:

I enjoy reading your posts and entering your giveaways. I like visiting blogs to enter giveaways (won’t lie about that) but I also like to read their personal stories and learn more about them. I want to know the people behind the blog.
