Do you like getting dirty?  Wanna feel like a kid again?  I know I do!

It’s been a full year since I ran my first (and last) half marathon.  I have checked that off of my bucket list.  What’s next? Let me get this off my chest now, I don’t like running.  There, I said it.  I’m not a runner.  Sure I played soccer in high school, but playing defense was more sprints then running the entire game.  However, now that I’m getter older, I find running to be one of the best ways to get my cardio in.  I have a few friends and we will meet up to go for a run.  That’s the best when you have a friend who will hold you accountable.  We’re lucky enough to live close to my kid’s school, so after walking them to school I’ll take a detour and go for a run.   The more I push myself to run, I’m finding myself enjoying it more and more.  Maybe it’s because I’m outside on beautiful days and not stuck staring at myself in the mirror on the treadmill at the gym.  Maybe it’s because I’m conditioning myself and don’t feel like I’m going to die after 5 minutes of running.  Maybe I am turning into a runner

Ever since the half marathon I’ve been wanting to do a mud run.  I was thrilled when Dirty Girl contacted us to see if we wanted to be an ambassador for one of their runs.  If you know Shannon, she’s not the running type, so I jumped on the opportunity and signed up a team (The Mommy Files) for the Ventura/ Greater LA Mud Run and  called on my girlfriends to participate in it with me.

What is Dirty Girl?

Dirty Girl is the nation’s largest women’s-only mud run. It’s a non-competitive, untimed 5K muddy obstacle course that’s open to women of all ages and athletic abilities. Cancer survivors run at all Dirty Girl events for free, and Dirty Girl will give $250,000 in 2013 to breast cancer charity Bright Pink.

Some of the obstacles include:

Utopian Tubes – It’s a wet and muddy.  Follow the lights as you crawl through a short tunnel and emerge on the other side.

PMS (Pretty Muddy Stuff) – Hop in the pit, run through and get to the other side.

Runaway Bride – Up and over? Down and under? Expect the unexpected and some variety.

H2OMG – Heard of water-aerobics? This is more like muddy-water-aerobics. Your job; climb in and get to the other side any way you want.

Our race is November 2 and I will update you on how our team did along with some pretty muddy pictures.  I cannot wait!   I’ve left the costumes for the team up to my stylish girlfriends (yes, they encourage the crazy to come out in fun and bright costumes). What do you think we should wear?

Dirty Girl is coming to a town near you.  Find out where they will be and when by clicking here.  How dirty will you get?
