If you follow my blog, you know how much I love Twitter Parties!  You also know how important it is to me that we keep our family, friends and those around us safe while we’re driving.  How do we do that?  We don’t text and drive!  Well, Sprint has come up with a fabulous device (OBD2) that disables text messaging while you’re driving.  Pretty cool, right?

Now that I’ve piqued your interest, you are probably wondering how it works, right?  It’s simple really.  You plug the device into a spot under your dashboard called OBD (onboard diagnostics). This sounds complicated but it’s just as easy as plugging into your cigarette lighter.   The device then sends you information on how your vehicle is being driven.  For example, you can get alerts if there is excessive speed (you define what excess is in your settings) or outside a given boundary.  You can also disable text messaging while the car is being driven.  The OBD2 device can be used as long as you feel it’s necessary.  With a subscription, the device sends you, the vehicle owner, feedback about how your vehicle is being driven.  This is really useful with newer drivers or caretakers (aka nannies) where you can’t be in the car with them, but you want everyone you love to be safe in the car.

Sprint has various products for insurance companies, such as the OBD2 device.  In fact, every car made from 1996 until today has an OBD plug in site.  OBD stands for On Board Diagnostics.  This spot is where mechanics plug into your vehicle to obtain diagnostic information.  For years, fleet managers have used OBD2 devices to keep track of their vehicles and now we, the general public, have the opportunity to learn more about how helpful these devices can be in our lives.

  1. This is such an important message to get out!

  2. Hoping to attend the Twitter party–depends on the rain–playing softball that night–however -what an important message–texting and driving is so beyond dangerous–Drive Safe is a great messge to get them to everyone! good luck

  3. Every phone should have something like this built in. In fact it should be mandatory. Texting and driving is just as bad as drinking and driving. In fact it is worse, because the people doing it are making the decision to do it when they have full control of their mind.

  4. I bet that will be an interesting Twitter Party!
