How many of us love to travel and feel like we desperately need a vacation?  We daydream of the perfect getaway, but just can’t seem to find the right trip to make everyone happy.  What if I told you there’s a place that’s unexpected, a place that you might have overlooked in the past, a place that will surprise you with its variety of options for fun and things to do.  Enter Missouri.

On a recent trip to South Carolina, I was talking with another blogger and found out they live in Missouri.  I have only been to Kansas City, Missouri and loved it!  I have heard about and written about Branson, Missouri only to have that as a place I would like to visit some day.  Now, I’m learning about a different side of Missouri – the Great Outdoors!

If I were to plan a trip to Missouri for 4 days, I would want to explore the Civil War sites.  On day 1, I would visit the Smallin War Cave, the Civil War Museum at Wilson Creek’s National Battlefield, Wilson Creek’s National Battlefield, Battle of Carthage Historic Site, Bushwhacker Museum, and then the 1st Kansas Colored Infantry Civil War Monument.  On day 2, I would visit more Civil War sites, including Iron County History Museum, Fort Davidson State Historic Site, Old Abe War Eagle Trail Monument, Cape Girardeau Common Pleas Courthouse, Frenchman’s Spring Historical Marker, Bloomfield Civil War Cemetary, and New Madrid Historical Museum.  On day 3, it would be time for relaxing and would include Zen 3 Spa and Bodyworks, Oovvda Winery, Battlefield Mall, Candy House Gourmet Chocolates, and Springfield Little Theatre at the Historic Landers Theatre.  On day 4, it would be the last day and full of underground fun, including Round Spring Cavern, Meramac Caverns, and Mark Twain Cave.  It would be tons of fun and there would be lots of photo opportunities!  What would you do?

I live about 5 hours from Missouri and would be interested in your day 4 events and even some of your day 1 events. Missouri also has a lot of good horse back riding areas too that the ACTHA (American Competitive Trail Horse Association) holds competitive rides as well as Kansas. Not so much here in Oklahoma unfortunately, but I do travel to Texas events as I am closer to the Texas boarder. I got my two Draft horses from a Missouri couple who said it is beautiful and has nice state parks for camping and hiking with or with out horses. That is a bonus for a horse girl.
