This is a sponsored post from our friends at Invisalign as part of a campaign with the SITS Girls.  All opinions expressed in this post are 100% mine.

When I was younger, I had VERY crooked teeth.  It was not just my crooked teeth that bothered me, but it was the teasing by other kids about my teeth.  So as soon as I had the opportunity to wear braces, I took it!  In fact, I was excited to get braces!

I remember going to the dentist for the first time. He kind of reminded me of Chef Boyardee, except he had a mustache that curled up at the ends.  Man, that mustache freaked me out!  It didn’t matter though because I knew that he would be giving me a beautiful smile in the long run!

Invisalign versus braces

I remember sitting in the chair with the big, bright light in my face and the dentist was poking and prodding in my mouth. I remember him taking a mold of my teeth before putting the braces on my teeth.  I had clear braces on the top and metal on the bottom and I remember how sensitive they were when the wires were tightened.  Heck, I even remember choosing COLORED bands to wear over my CLEAR braces.  Don’t ask me why!   I even remember having to put little pieces of wax on the pieces of metal brackets to avoid cutting the inside of my cheeks and lips.  Oh man, what a process it was to wear braces!

Nowadays, our children have it made!  They have the option of having their teeth straightened in a way like we never did.  They can use Invisalign!  As I’ve gotten older and my retainers have become lost, I am finding that my teeth are shifting.  Oh how I wish I could use Invisalign on my bottom teeth.  Well, maybe someday?

Today’s braces are more sophisticated than ever.  Gone are the days of “wrap around” metal brackets, bonded brackets and big clunky head and neck gears.  As technology enhances our daily lives, it also continues to advance the science of orthodontics.

Among the new advances in orthodontia, removable aligners like Invisalign are fast becoming a popular choice.  So, how does the system work?  The system uses a series of clear aligners made of lightweight plastic that sit smoothly on the teeth, allowing for a more comfortable fit and they work as effectively as traditional metal braces.  Because the aligners can be removed, kids can eat, brush and floss as they would normally.  Teens can smile with confidence while straightening their teeth since this treatment, unlike traditional metal braces, is virtually invisible. If your teens need Invisalign alingers in Bay Village, OH, schedule your consultation with Cynthia J. Mikula, DDS.

When compared to metal (or even ceramic wire and bracket) braces, the clear aligner option has many benefits.  Although the cost is roughly about the same as traditional braces, the system usually requires fewer office visits, shorter appointments and no “emergency” visits for broken wires or brackets.  Metal wires and brackets can cause irritation or even accident-related injuries, especially for teens involved in sports.

Braces are a rite of passage for many kids, and thanks to 21st century technology such as Invisalign Teen, patients can watch their winning smile evolve instead of waiting to see the final result when the traditional metal brackets come off.  Invisalign patients can start to see improvements and progress in as little as 90 days.

As with any medical procedure, consider getting a second opinion if you are told you or your child is not a candidate for Invisalign.  Not all dentists and orthodontists are certified Invisalign providers, so the best way to find an Invisalign provider is to visit the Invisalign Doctor Locator.

There are more than 2 million Invisalign cases in treatment or completed worldwide.  From very simple to very challenging, Invisalign offers a full spectrum of clear straightening treatments for most types of orthodontic issues.  Take the Invisalign Smile Assessment to find out if Invisalign is right for you or your child.

  1. Great before and after. My son is in dire need of braces and scared to go through the process. We are actually hoping to do invisalign in September.

  2. What a HUGE difference these make in a person’s smile–a co-worker has the invisalign and WOW after just a few short weeks here smile was so improved–you didn’t even know she had them on–so cool! great alternative for adults too

  3. I think this product is fantastic. You can barely notice that it’s on! Perfect for proms, grads or just being a teen (or even an adult).

I have heard of Invisalign and thought it would be a great product to try. I wore braces for 2 years in high school but feel as though my teeth could use a reminder. 😉

  5. Shanaka says:

I was a brace face in high school. I hated it. To bad Invisalign wasnt around 10 years sooner.

  6. Dede says:

The Before and After pics say it all — amazing!! I have several students who have opted for Invisalign. It’s totally what I’d choose if I needed braces.

  7. It’s SO much less invasive and a heck of a lot less embarrassing with this kind of method!

Yes!! I posted about this a year ago or so. Love this idea. My friends who are grown up Moms and such have done braces to fix their teeth and I honestly think they sometimes look like teens again. Not a look I aspire to. I love that Invisalign can easily take the teeth and do the same job but looks virtually invisible. It honestly kind of freaks me out to see grownups wearing full on traditional braces. Love this option so much more.

  9. Chrysa says:

I really wish that Invisalign had been around when I was a teen. I suffered with those big ugly metal braces for years!

I’ve been going back and forth about getting Invisalign for my daughter who’s going to need braces soon. I so glad you did a review on it!
