We had rented KIA Soul when we traveled to Florida and that was pretty much the only KIA experience we have ever had.  I was thrilled to recently have the opportunity to test drive the 2014 KIA Sorento SX AWD in Remington Red.  I have to admit, I pretty much fell in love with this car and was so sad to see it leave.  I can say that I have even had “Sorento withdrawals,” especially when I drove down to Legoland again this weekend.  Oh how I missed the seat warmers, the moon roof, the lights and beeping that appeared when there was a car in my blind set, and so many more features that make the 2014 KIA Sorento SX stand out from the rest!  It is truly an AWESOME vehicle!!!

I loved how comfortable it was sitting behind the wheel of the 2014 KIA Sorento SX.  I had the option of changing the tension of the steering wheel.  I could drive it in “comfortable” mode (a looser more relaxed mode), Normal mode, or Sport mode (a tighter mode).  You can also have the option of having a heated steering wheel.  How cool is that?

One of my favorite features of the 2014 KIA Sorento SX were the heated/cooled seats.  I love to feel comfortable when I’m driving and let me tell you, heated seats do the trick!  Hey, if it’s the summertime and it’s blazing hot outside, you can turn on the seat cooling system and you’re cooled down within seconds.

Another feature I love is the third row seating.  In the 2014 KIA Sorento SX, you can seat 7 – including the driver, front-seat passenger, 3 passengers on the bench seat, and 2 passengers in the back row.  That is pretty awesome!  When we traveled down to LEGOLAND, the two younger boys sat in the middle row and the oldest sat in the back.  He loved having that space to himself.  With him in the back row, we were able to fold down one of the seats, giving us room to store the luggage.

We also really loved the 8-inch Navigation w/ HD Radio and Voice Activated System.  It does so much!!!  We even managed to get 30.2 mpg on our trip down to Carlsbad!  Oh yeah baby!  Plus, the 7-inch TFT LCD Meter Cluster and Information Display.  You can even adjust the brightness of the screens – helping a ton when you’re driving at night! Let’s not forget the awesome SiriusXM Satellite Radio with a free 3-month subscription that is included with the car.  The boys loved seeing the Rear-Camera display whenever we moved in reverse.  They thought it was so cool to see what was behind us inside of the car!  You also have the UVO eServices Telematics system (with a free subscription), which is pretty awesome!  If you need help, get locked out, get into an accident, or any number of auto requests, you simply use your UVO system and help will be on the way.

I love to drive in a car with a sunroof, but have never driven one with a moon roof!  The 2014 KIA Sorento SX has a Panoramic Sunroof with Power Retracting Sunshade.  You can pop the roof or open it up all the way.  There is even a net on the outside to prevent bugs from the outside coming in and flying into you. Plus, you can even just open the shade without opening the roof at all.  The boys really loved that feature!

As a blogger, I am constantly using my laptop and my phone, which means that on a long road trip, my battery can run out pretty quickly.  Not to worry because in the 2014 KIA Sorento SX, you have a USB drive in the front.  I love this because you can plug your phone in and have it directly hooked up to the system – playing your music, charging your phone, and more!  You also have a 115 volt Power Inverter in front of the middle row.  I have never seen a vehicle with this before and thought it was great!  I mean when the kids are playing their iPads, they can simply plug it in and charge it up while on the road, or even charge up my laptop while traveling.

One of the boys’ favorite features were the 2nd Row Integrated Retractable Sunshades and the cup holders throughout the vehicle.  There was a cup holder next to every seat.  Plus in the middle row, there was an additional piece in the middle that folded down and  had two additional cup holders.

I absolutely loved the 2014 KIA Sorento SX and could have driven it all day long!  We drove it to Carlsbad for the KIA Classic, to San Jose for the YesVideo Ambassador Event, and then to Santa Barbara for our camping trip.  It is an awesome car and I highly recommend it for anyone looking for a comfortable and reliable car!

We loved driving it to the Kia Classic too. Great storage capacity and a ton of “luxury” features you can’t get anywhere else for the price!

I did a review of the 2012 Kia Sorento last year and it looks like they took this one a step further! So nice!

It’s a great car! They said they did make a few modifications on the newer model. Did yours have the 3rd row seating or the UVO eServices option?

How cool! My mom keeps telling me that we should look into Kias because they are nice and affordable. We went with a Nissan Murano last time we bought a new car, but now we are considering Kia for our next. It’s fun to see pictures and opinions from real people using them. I never really appreciate brochures, but then I dread actually going to the dealer to look at them because I don’t like pressure.

I totally know what you mean. I really loved this car! If you’re looking for a great car from Kia, then this is definitely a great option!

  4. WOW! That car looks amazing! It would definitely fit the needs of our family! And i love all the features like sunroof, window cover and the camera for backing up! 🙂

    Hi Shannon,

I remember the first time I rode in a Kia 15 years ago… how terrible they were back then! For years we referred to them as “throw away cars”. I have been very impressed with the significant changes they have made in an effort to make them comparable to the top-brand car companies. I no longer refer to them in the same manner as I too love the look and feel of the luxury car without the luxury price!

P.S. The color of your Kia was beautiful.

I didn’t know too much about the KIAs back then, but the last few times I’ve driven one, I’ve had a great experience. So glad you love them now. 🙂

    • Shannon says:

Oh my gosh Kristyn, it was so comfortable! I didn’t realize how quickly I would get used to it, so driving my car now makes me miss it even more! 😉
