Vacation period is fast approaching, and it’s time to start thinking about your next family break. Whether it’s going to be a couple of days or a couple of weeks, it doesn’t have to cost you a fortune, as long as you’re thrifty with your spending and practical in your planning. This guide from PassSmart is designed to help you do just that. With tips on how to travel, finding the best deals on dining and where to stay, you’ll be packed and ready to go before you know it! You may consider booking revolutionary war experience tours to make the vacation educational for your kids.

Tactical timing

Of course, when you’re taking a break with the kids, you’re going to have to travel at the most expensive times of the year in order to fit in with the school holidays. Air fares will be higher and hotels will charge inflated prices, so why not opt for a location which isn’t as popular with tourists?

Instead of going in the height of summer, choose a different school holiday to take the kids away. The heat will be easier to cope with, there’ll be smaller crowds to tackle and you’ll save some money on air fares and room rates.

Get the app!

There is an app for just about everything these days, and apps which help you to save are no exception. Search for an app which will help you fund the best deals for wherever you are. The Coupons App for Android, for example, will help you to find deals quickly at the click of a button.

If apps aren’t really your thing though, you can of course do it the old fashioned way and simply look around for the best deals. Find a small, privately owned restaurant to dine in. These will often be much cheaper than big chains, and the food will probably be tastier!

Treat your room as your base

It’s important to bear in mind that you go on holiday to see new places and experience new things, so there’s no point in splashing out on a swanky hotel room. Treat your accommodation as your base and save money where possible. Budget doesn’t have to mean bad, so look out for hotels with simple facilities which fit into your price range. Instead of booking expensive hotel rooms, you may look for a budget-friendly Oceanfront Bed And Breakfast.

Alternatively, self-catering is a fantastic option if you don’t mind doing a bit of cooking whilst you’re away. If you’re driving, you can save money by taking food with you, or by doing a grocery shop in a local store when you arrive.

Pack lightly!

We all know packing lightly can be a challenge when traveling with kids, but it’s not impossible – honestly! Packing lightly will save you fuel if you’re driving and excess baggage charges if you’re flying. You can also save an incredible amount of money shopping for Women’s Resale clothing.

You’re probably going to want to bring some souvenirs home too, so leaving some space in your suitcase is a good idea for your return journey too.

Do free stuff!

Having fun doesn’t have to mean spending money. Do the things which you take for granted when you’re at home. Go for a picnic in the park, take a day trip to the beach or visit a museum.

Take advantage of your quality time together, and do the things which you don’t usually have time to do!
