Spring is here and for many of us, spring cleaning is on our minds.  Don’t you ever wonder why we feel the need to scrub every inch of our homes?  I can tell you it isn’t because we love to clean!  We spend hours dusting, washing, and sweeping because we know our families will stay healthier as a result.  Although we have no control over the germs or “cooties” at our kids’ school or the endless number of objects they do touch, we can control the environment of the home they come into at the end of the day.  Recognizing this, LYSOL wants to challenge each of us to rethink traditional cleaning with the new concept of Healthing.

Their newest initiative is designed to introduce families to the Healthing lifestyle, which focuses on shifting how we look at cleaning by taking a more conscious approach.  Centered on keeping families as healthy as possible, Healthing urges us to look beyond cleaning and promotes small changes throughout our hygiene and cleaning routines.  For example, we should not only take the time and make the effort to regularly clean and disinfect our kids’ toys, but we should also make sure they understand why hand washing is so important.  To help spread the word, LYSOL has teamed up with television personality Giuliana Rancic and is visiting YMCAs in select markets across the U.S. to teach families about Healthing.  At each YMCA location, LYSOL will provide attendees with hands-on education about the products and steps required to practice improved hygiene habits in their own home, while making the idea fun and relatable to kids.  LYSOL will also provide educational information and disinfecting products to the local YMCAs, along with the donation of a one-year membership to a deserving family.  What an awesome cause!

How do we strive to keep our family healthy?  I feel like it is so important to wipe down toys and Wii Game remotes after a child is sick with the LYSOL Disinfecting Wipes.  We have also recently experienced one of our children getting sick in the car because of motion sickness.  I am so glad that we found LYSOL Power & Free Multi-Purpose Cleaner.  It did an amazing job cleaning up the vomit residue left behind after he got sick.  Trust me, it is not a pleasant experience to drive any length of time in a car after someone has thrown up in the car on the carpet.  We were able to use the spray and clean it up almost perfectly while on the road.  What do you use to keep your family healthier?

Check out a few of the LYSOL Healthing Tips that really stood out to me:

1 – Don’t let spring cleaning overwhelm you.  Take it one room at a time and stock up on products that will help you to get the job done effectively, including LYSOL® products, paper towels, sponges, and trash bags.

2 – Start with the basics – wipe down easy to reach surfaces and then move onto the little nooks and crannies.

3 – Use a disinfectant product, like LYSOL® Disinfecting Wipes, to help ensure you’re killing germs as you clean, and think beyond the usual places.

4 – Make it a family activity and tailor tasks to specific age groups.  Give younger children simpler, one-step tasks like dusting or picking toys up off the floor, and save the more complex jobs, such as vacuuming, scrubbing, and disinfecting for older members of the family.

5 – Remember to practice proper hand washing as well after you clean, either with soap and water for 20 seconds or a hand sanitizer.  Hand washing is the single most important thing you can do to prevent illness, according to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC).

I participated in a campaign on behalf of Mom Central Consulting for LYSOL®.  I received a promotional item to thank me for participating.
