Fitbit oneI was excited to join other mom bloggers as a member of the Fitbit Challenge Crew.  In an effort to get healthier, I have started working out and monitoring my sleep routines.  I mean, how many of us bloggers stay up until the wee hours working on our site while our family sleeps?  I have learned that with sufficient sleep, I am able to perform my daily tasks much better than staying up until the late hours like I used to.  I also love the Fitbit One because it tracks my steps.  Who knew I took so many steps in a day – dropping kids off at school, grocery shopping, preparing meals, getting the mail, and other daily activities.  It’s actually really cool to see that I am working out without even knowing it, while the One tracks it all!

As a frugal parent, I like to know how I can get the most out of my products when I purchase them.  The One wasn’t any different!  Thanks to Fitbit, here are a few tips on how you can make the most out of your Fitbit One.

Fitbit One PhoneKEEP IT DAILY

Members who make Fitbit a part of their daily life report more success in reaching their goals.

TIP (Fitbit):  To get in the habit, try logging in at the same time every day.  If you have a tracker, keep it in the same place when you’re not wearing it, charge it regularly, and sync it often.

TIP (The Mommy-Files): Wanna know how to get in the habit?  Log in and check your account 3 times a day – morning, afternoon, and night.  If it helps, check in around the time you get ready to eat a meal, or even check your Facebook or Twitter account!

KEEP IT LEAN

Trying to lose some weight?  Research shows that people with weight loss goals are 2x more likely to reach them if they log what they eat.

TIP (Fitbit):  Our food logs allow you to log a range of foods as well as create your own.

TIP (The Mommy-Files):  Find a friend who has similar weight loss goals and hold each other accountable for daily workouts, food intake, and logging of your activity.  Holding each other accountable makes it more fun and much harder to slack off and fall out of your routine.

KEEP IT ON-THE-GO

Log activities and food where ever you are with Fitbit’s free iPhone app (even when you are offline), Android app (if you have a network connection), and mobile website (m.fitbit.com).

TIP (Fitbit):  Add it to your home screen for faster access.

TIP (The Mommy-Files):  Do you find yourself out and about without access to your Fitbit account?  Jot down what you eat throughout the day in a pocket-size journal or keep all of your receipts from eating out and jot down the rest of the food you snack on throughout the day on a separate piece of paper.  Record your information as soon as you get access to your home computer or smart phone with the Fitbit application.

KEEP IT DRY

The tracker can withstand some water and moisture (they’ve even had a few reports of survival in a toilet bowl!) but they don’t recommend this.  The washing machine is also not a friendly environment for your tracker.

TIP (Fitbit):  If you have a tracker, be sure to take it off right before you change clothes to avoid death by washing machine.

TIP (The Mommy-Files):  Put your tracker in the same place as your cell phone to ensure it doesn’t get lost or left behind on bra straps, in pockets, or anywhere else you might put it.
