Africa blu-ray

We received a copy of the movie, Africa, from BBC Worldwide and it is awesome!  Mike Gunton, Executive Producer of Life, presents an amazing new perspective on the landscapes and creatures of Africa.  This is the world’s wildest continent as you’ve never seen it before – an intense sensory adventure from the Atlas Mountains through the Savannah lands to the Cape of Good Hope.  Hosted by renowned naturalist David Attenborough, Africa contrasts the epic power of the landscape with the dramatic struggles of the animals that live there.  Each episode promises intimate, eye-to-eye encounters with extraordinary wildlife, venturing into genuinely unexplored places and capturing never-seen-before behavior.  Africa is now available in stores and online on DVD and Blu-ray.

Here are some interesting facts about Africa.  It just finished airing on Discover Channel (premiered January 8).  The series was a Discovery Channel / BBC co-production.  It took 4 years in the making across 27 countries.  The crew used 553 cameras, spent 100 days on horseback and 601 nights in tents, and consumed 6,526 anti-malarial tablets!  Of the 553 cameras used, only 8 were harmed in the making of Africa: 1 chargrilled, 2 eaten (by a lion and an elephant), 2 mini-helicam crashes and 3 drowned.  “Filming firsts” included in the first footage of lizards hunting for flies on the backs of sleeping lions, as well as a new hunting behavior in chimpanzees (hunting for honey using 4 different tools).  Sounds like a pretty awesome experience, right?

ONE LIFE IN THE MOVIES

This week, my friend, Tee (from That’s It Mommy), headed to Universal City to see One Life in the movie theaters and it was a really great movie!  I had no idea I would enjoy it as much as I did.  My favorite part of the movie was with the Snow monkeys in the hot springs in Hell’s Valley, Japan.  With freezing temperatures around them, these monkeys know how to keep warm.  They just sit back, relax, and groom one another in the 100 degree water.  But, not all of the snow monkeys can hang in the water – only those of royalty!

One Life 3

I loved how the movie featured different parts of the world and the way different species care for their families.  From Japan to the Congo to Africa to the U.S., animals both big and small share in similarities in how they protect and care for their young ones.  It even touched on the Venus Fly Trap – now that one is crazy!  If you didn’t get a chance to see it in the movies, you’ll want to definitely see it when it comes to Blu-ray and DVD!  It’s an awesome one!
