I have three boys and Frank has two boys and a girl.  Each of them has gone through (and still goes through) phases where they are picky eaters.  Your little one could be a picky eater because of texture, color, or taste.

Heck, I remember growing up and HATING cooked carrots.  Ok, let me just say this – I still HATE cooked carrots!  There’s just something about trying to eat one – the taste, texture and even smell that gets my gag reflex going.  I remember being at the counter and eating it, knowing I had to finish all of it on my plate.  Do you know what I did (and I hope my kids don’t do this)?  I filled my mouth with as many as I could and then ran to the bathroom and spit them in the toilet.  Yes, I did that, but that was better than throwing them all up, right?

Our kids go through picky eating phases and I can’t tell you how frustrating it is!  To try prepare a meal that everyone will love is almost near to impossible, but there is a way to feed your picky eater without changing the menu for everyone!

1 – Let your child play with his food.  That’s right – I did say to let your child play with his food!  Don’t let them fling it across the room, but do let him explore the food with his hands and allow him to become familiar with what he’s eating.  After all, most of the time, kids just want to play. So, this is a perfect opportunity to feed your picky eater and make it fun.

2 – Let your child dip.  My kids love ketchup, I mean LOVE ketchup!  Let’s just say that we always have a steady supply on hand.  There is just something that intrigues them when it comes to dipping their food in a yummy sauce!  So, be sure to have ranch, ketchup and barbecue sauce on hand. And if you’re on keto diet and still want to have a dip, then you may try this Keto vegetarian ketchup!

3 – Share your enjoyment of the food.  When our kids are hesitant to try a new food, Frank and I just talk about how yummy it is and what our favorite part of the meal is.  We share our excitement for the new dish and 9 times out of 10, our child is ready to try the food.

4 – Let your child pick the menu.  When I say this, I don’t mean to let the pick it all the time.  But do give them a chance to create the menu of foods they love.  It will increase the bond and sense of importance the child has within the family.

5 – Talk with your family during meal time.  One thing that we have stuck to in our home is talking about our day as a family at dinner time.  We sit down and eat together and by sharing our thoughts and feelings, we increase our family bond.  I love having dinner as a family!

One of our kids’ favorite foods is the Tyson Chicken Nuggets.  Not only do we think they taste good, but they are fun to eat and dip!  Plus, right now you can get a FREE plate with 3 proofs of purchase from Tyson packages!

I agree with tip #1. I often find that if I kind of ignore their eating and just talk and enjoy my own food, they’ll eat when I’m not paying attention to them.
