This year, Frank and I have made it a goal to get healthier!  We purchased an Elliptical Machine and a Treadmill so that we can work out together.  As I have started working from home, I have found myself sitting more and moving about less.  This has resulted in a less toned body and some weight gain.  This has inspired me to start working out – benefiting me with a more toned and healthier body.

When researching health and body weight, I found a cool link where I learned more about the Body Mass Index (BMI).  The BMI is the easiest way to determine if you are carrying around too much fat on your body.  It’s based on your height and weight and estimates whether your weight is healthy or if you are too overweight or obese.

Calculating your BMI is easy!  Simply head to this calculator and enter your weight and height (in feet and inches).  When I entered mine, I calculated a BMI of 21.  A healthy BMI for adults is between 19 and 26 and I was glad my number fell into the healthy range.  A BMI of 27 to 30 is considered overweight.  Obesity is classified as a BMI of 30 or above.

If you have a BMI that is below 19, you may find yourself at risk for problems such as osteoporosis.  A low BMI may also be a sign that you are ill.  If you find your BMI to be in the obese or overweight range, you may be at greater than average risk for conditions such as coronary heart disease, type 2 diabetes, and high blood pressure.
