AT&T Autism Speaks Apps Facebook Contest
Did you know that one in 88 children is on the autism spectrum and that prevalence is steadily increasing? Autism is becoming a part of every parent’s life – whether directly or through a friend of family member.
Through February 3rd, AT&T and Autism Speaks are hosting an App Idea Submission Contest. In recent years, studies and parent testimonials have illuminated the benefits of touchscreen tablets and mobile devices for both children and adults on the autism spectrum.
Through February 3rd, Autism Speaks Facebook fans and community members can submit their ideas for apps that make life with autism better organized, more social or just plain easier or more fun! App idea submissions will focus on four categories: verbal, non-verbal, school-age (K-12) and adult. Judges will select 10 finalists in each category and February 11th – 17th, the community will vote on the ideas that they like best! What is awesome is that these ideas will come from the community, for the community, and will be voted on by the community.
The authors of the three app ideas with the most votes in each category will receive a free wifi-enabled, waterproof Pantech Element Tablet from AT&T—the “Tablet Built for Real Life.” Further, these winning app ideas – 12 in all – will have a real chance to change lives: they’ll serve as the basis of an AT&T-Autism Speaks Mobile App Hackathon in Palo Alto on April 12-13.
