Bigelow Tea Academy Awards Party 1

When I was a young girl, I remember the excitement there was around watching the Academy Awards (aka the Oscars) as a family!  We’d usually order pizza, eat popcorn and snack on goodies while watching the stars walk up the stage in their beautiful gowns and well-pressed tuxes to receive their award.  These were experiences that stuck in my head for a long time, even now now as an adult.  Plus, one of my favorite teas is Bigelow Tea, so I thought, why not incorporate two things I love into one awesome party!  Thus was born the Academy Awards Viewing Party with Bigelow Tea!  I was starting a new tradition for our family and this year, we were routing for one of my favorite movies – Life of Pi!

I invited several of our friends over for an Academy Awards Viewing Party featuring Bigelow Tea and Life of Pi, and let me tell you, we had so much fun!!!  We had Tropical Fruit Mix, Cajun Nut Mix, a Fruit Platter, Lasagna, Cheesecake, Cupcakes, and Bigelow Tea.  For the Bigelow Tea, we didn’t make warm tea (like I typically drink), but we made Berry Peach Mar-TEA-nis!  I had no idea there were so many cocktail recipes on Bigelow’s site that incorporate their flavorful tea bags, not to mention the many flavors of Bigelow Teas you’ll find at your local Walmart.  The Berry Peachy Mar-TEA-Nis were easy to make and definitely livened up the party.  Check out the easy recipe below:

BERRY PEACHY MAR-TEA-NI

INGREDIENTS:

– 3 Bigelow Red Raspberry Herb Tea Bags

– 3 Bigelow Perfect Peach Herb Tea Bags

– 1 1/4 cups boiling water

– 1 tablespoon sugar

– 4 ounces vodka

DIRECTIONS:

Place tea bags into a measuring cup and add 1 ¼ cups boiling water. Let brew for 3 minutes. Remove tea bags.  Add sugar and stir until it dissolves.

To chill place tea concentrate in the freezer for 30-45 minutes.

To make a martini, place 2 ounces of the cooled sweet tea and mix it with 1 ounce of the vodka in a cocktail shaker. Shake with ice and strain into a martini glass.

**Note:  If you like your drinks sweeter, I add more sugar and less vodka.**

Frank and I had seen Life of Pi in the theater in 3D and it was awesome!  The movie was intense, funny, and beautiful and I had a feeling it was definitely going to be winning some Oscars this year!  When it came to the nominations and Life of Pi came up on the screen, our room suddenly grew quiet and we all eagerly listened for the winning announcement.  I have to admit that there were a few times I sighed when Life of Pi didn’t win, but the cheering when it did made up for it!

Since we were watching the stars win awards that evening, Frank and I thought it would be fun to provide “Star” glasses for our guest to wear.  Ha ha!  We got some good pics too!  We had our own stars at our Academy Awards Viewing Party and we were proud to show our smiles.

As a blogger who’s attended and put together many different events, I’ve learned that Swag is always a fun way to end the day!  So, for our Academy Awards Viewing Party, we had some pretty awesome swag!  Each guest went home with a bucket of swag, which includes a Popcorn Bucket, a movie that had won an Academy Award in previous year, a box of candy, and a box of Bigelow Tea.  Plus one lucky winner won the Pre-order of Life of Pi on Blu-ray and DVD, as well as the code to view it on Vudu.  If you want to pick up a copy for yourself, Life of Pi will be available on Blu-ray and DVD in Walmart beginning on March 12th.

From my posts, tweets, and Instagram pictures, you can tell that I am fan of Bigelow Tea.  But why?  One – I love the flavors they offer of their teas.  I love that I can use the tea bag for more than one cup of tea too!  Two – I admit it – I love the foil packaging!  It’s like opening a prize every time I open one for a cup of tea.  Three – I love that it is a family-owned company!  And Four – I love that it has been part of some very special memories I’ve had in my life – the Academy Awards Viewing Party included.

If you love Bigelow Tea and Life of Pi as much as I do you’ll definitely want to check out a sweepstakes they’re running through March 20th.  There are some great prizes to be won, so check it out!

  1. Those star glasses are the greatest! Love seeing all your photos. And I just love your swag and that you put movies in them that had won previous Academy Awards, such a great idea. What a lucky person that was able to win the Life of PI pre-order!!

Oh my goodness. What a fun party! I seriously love it! To think of a cocktail with tea, brilliant! I have yet to see Life of Pi but I have read the book, and it is awesome.

How fun! I’d never thought of using tea to make anything other than tea! Definitely checking out Bigelow’s website for more recipes! This Southern Diva is a tea lover so finding some new cocktails to incorporate my fav drink is awesome! Thanks for sharing!!!

  4. Looks like fun. I’d never thought of making martinis with flavored tea!

  5. The cocktail recipe sounds delish! I don’t like fruity teas for breakfast, but would love it in something like this.

  7. […] You know the ones… Who can forget Cher’s outlandishly scant Bob Mackie beaded frock and headdress (1986)—which set the standard for Oscar fashion as we know it today? Or Jack Palance’s wacky one-armed pushups to prove a point about aging and fitness (1992)! And how about Kathryn Bigelow’s first-ever win for Hurt Locker, both as a director AND a woman (2010)?  (Notice her awesome last name).  Last year, you may recall, Bigelow Tea was featured as part of several DIY Oscar viewing parties complete with good friends and Bigelow Tea cocktails, one of which was chronicled on The Mommy Files.
