You are looking for a wonderful winter trip, but are still confused by so many “must sees”? So what do you really want out of your winter vacation? Winter sports are “cool,” and tropical beaches are “hot.” Both are exciting, but if you desire a trip that is really fresh and where you can gain useful experiences, Peru is an ideal destination for you. Especially if you are into nature and archaeology, you will find yourself there. Peru has many attractions, and these are some of the most essential.

1. Cities and Landmarks: Lima, Nazca Lines, Paracas, and Cusco

The first way to explore Peru, which is included in Best Travel Destinations Winter 2012 is to visit its cities and landmarks such as Lima, the capital city; Nazca Lines, the giant symbol of ancient religious ritual; and Cusco, which used to be the capital city of the Incan Empire.

In Lima, you can visit the Main Square of Lima, which used to be the place for bullfighting, as well as many museums including National Museum, Gold Museum of Peru, and Spanish Inquisition Museum.
From Lima, you can take an air tour to contemplate the Nazca Lines from space; some people believe that they are the vestiges of outer space visitors.

On the way back to Lima, you could also go by way of Paracas National Reverse and Ballesta Island with their diverse ecosystems.

Cusco is a must-see; you should visit the Main Square of Cusco, the Temple of Qoricancha, the Calle Hatun Rumiyoc, and the San Blas neighborhood. By visiting these places, you can understand more about the people, the nation, and the history of Peru. It’s wonderful to visit all of them, and don’t worry about internal flights because CheapOAir usually has great deals on flights.

2. The Ruins of the Incas in the Andes Mountains: Urubamba Valley and Machu Picchu

It would be remiss of you to overlook this area. The Andes Mountains have ideal bike and walking trails; you can ride or hike across them to admire snow-capped mountains and Incan heritage.

Urubamba Valley is also called the Sacred Valley of the Incas. The heart of the valley is Urubamba River; native tribes consider it to be their holy river. You can either go through the river by raft to contemplate the whole valley or hike through, and you will finally reach Machu Picchu.

Machu Picchu – the “Old Mountain” in the ancient Incan language – is also called the “Lost City of the Incas.” It’s above Urubamba Valley and 44 miles from Cusco. It’s one of the world’s finest and most invaluable archaeological relics. There are a total of 140 antique monuments here, and the sites you shouldn’t miss are the Temple of the Sun with “Intihuatana,” the astronomical clock of the Incas; the great Palace; the temples of the Inca’s genies; and the range of mountains at the back of Machu Picchu, which has a shadow that looks like the face of the Inca. The architecture left by the ancient Inca is still a mystery, with polished rocks fitting together without mortar. Surprisingly, ancient people did not use wheels to move those large rocks.

Peru is a perfect place for a wonderful and meaningful winter vacation. If you are still hesitant about how to get there, Viator Promo Code can help you by providing many packages and promotions for you to select from.

I love South America, but I have never been to Peru. It’s weird because I have always wanted to see Macchu Picchu. One day….
