Are you familiar with Unilever?  The Unilever family of brands includes Ragu, Knorr, Popsicle, Lipton, Dove, Axe, St. Ives, and more.  I recently headed to my local Walmart and picked up some of my favorite Unilever brands.  I didn’t realize there were so many of our family favorites that belonged to the Unilever family!  I purchased Ragu, Knorr, Bertolli, Lipton, Country Crock, Fudgsicle, Dove, Axe, TRESemmé, and St. Ive’s.  Did you know that Unilever and its family of brands have created a Sustainable Living Plan, which addresses environmental well-being, as well as health, well being, and enhancing livelihoods?

We use Unilever products a lot in our home and it was fun to come up with some of the ways we could incorporate sustainable living in our lives.  The first way is to eat healthy, even when living on a budget.  We love spaghetti in our family, and something as simple as adding meatballs or ground beef to the sauce gives us more nutrition in our meal.  The next way is good hygiene.  This includes daily showers with Dove body wash and brushing our teeth at least twice a day.  Good hygiene also contributes to high self-esteem.  Well-being and high self-esteem can be achieved by taking care of our hair and using products such as Axe or TRESemmé or by pampering myself with face treatments, such as St. Ives products.  We also had the opportunity to donate food items to our school for the food drive they held before the holiday break.  Donations included canned soup, pasta, canned fruit, canned vegetables, and paper products such as napkins, paper plates and toilet paper.  One other way I thought we could live sustainably is by reusing the Ragu jars we get.  These are perfect for holding homemade salsa or even washing out and making gifts in a jar.  Whatever  jars we don’t use, we recycle.  How will you incorporate sustainable living into your home and family?

Did you know that hunger is not just an issue affecting the homeless and those who struggle with poverty?  36% of individuals served by the Feeding America’s network have at least one working adult in their household.  I didn’t know that until I tested my Hunger I.Q. on the Unilever Making Life Better site.  It took me less than 10 minutes to complete the four steps and I walked away with information that I could use to help others in the community to Cross Off Hunger.

The first step is to learn about what foods and items your local food banks need.  I was introduced to the 10 most-needed food bank items.  Often times, many people think of a food bank as only needing and giving out “food,” but that’s not the case.  Items that were non-food related included Baby items and toiletries.  The second step is to take a virtual tour of a food bank – learning about food banks and how they operate and help others.  I had not been in a food bank before, so I wasn’t even sure how it was laid out, how items were received and stored, or how items were distributed to recipients.  The third step is to test your Hunger I.Q.  With this quiz, you will be asked 10 questions and will learn the top 10 facts about hunger in America.  The fourth step is to find a food bank near you.  I entered in my zip code and was surprised by how many food banks I found near me!  Once completed, I shared my Crossing Off Hunger Badge on Facebook.  I encourage everyone to follow the steps and learn how you can Cross Off Hunger.

Feeding America®, the nation’s largest organization dedicated to fighting domestic hunger through a network of food banks.  $1 = $8 meals secured by Feeding America on behalf of local food banks.  Unilever will donate $25,000.  The monetary equivalent of a minimum of 2 million meals will be donated.

We have a few different food bank like places here, but they’re ran weird. You cannot get any help from them unless you get food stamps. I don’t understand it, if you get food stamps you have food… some people don’t get food stamps and need the help but cannot get it. It is crazy. I do like seeing companies help with fighting hunger though.

IT’s so awesome to see that a dollar stretches can be stretched so far.
