I recently had the opportunity to watch People Like Us (Two-Disc Blu-ray/DVD Combo) and LOVED it!  It was charming, funny and heartwarming.  Pete Hammond of the Boxoffice Magazine describes People Like Us by saying, “Humane and riveting….One of the year’s very best!”  Scott Mantz from Access Hollywood describes the movies as “Charming, funny…and heartfelt.”  From the studio that brought us The Help, comes the inspirational story about family reconnections and life changes – starring Chris Pine, Elizabeth Banks, Olivia Wilde and Michelle Pfeiffer.  People Like Us is available on Blu-ray Combo Pack, DVD, Digital and On Demand and retails for $39.99 and is available online and in stores.

Inspired by true life events, the “People Like Us” Blu-ray Combo Pack comes complete with bonus material that delves deeper into the story that inspired the making of thisgreat film. These extras include audio commentary with filmmakers and talent, an extended scene of L.A.’s popular Henry Taco Stand featured in the film, deleted scenes and bloopers.

People Like Us” is directed/produced by Alex Kurtzman (Cowboys & Aliens, The Proposal, Star Trek, TV’s “Hawaii Five-O”), written by Alex Kurtzman, Roberto Orci (Transformers, Star Trek, Cowboys & Aliens) and Jody Lambert (her first writing debut) and composed by award-winning composer A.R. Rahman (127 Hours, Slumdog Millionaire).

SYNOPSIS:

Chris Pine, who plays Sam, is a twenty-something, fast-talking salesman whose latest deal collapses the day he learns his father has suddenly died. Against his wishes, Sam is called home to put his father’s estate in order and reconnect with his estranged family. While there, he uncovers a startling secret that turns his entire world upside down — he has a 30-year-old sister (Banks) he never knew existed.

MY THOUGHTS

I really enjoyed watching People Like Us and found that it kept my attention throughout the length of the movie.  The cast did an awesome job and I felt like I was right there with them through most of the movie – one of the perks of watching it on Blu-ray!  It left me feeling good about the movie and wondering what I might do if I were in the situation that Sam was with his dad, mom and new family.  A big thanks to Walt Disney Video for the movie review opportunity!

  1. Andrea Darst says:

I did actually find out that my mom had a child when she was just 16, her parents sent her away to have it and the adopted the baby as their own. My grandfather was supposed to tell my “uncle” (really my half-brother) when my grandmother died, but never did, and now my grandfather is gone, too. My mother is still with us (thankfully), but I don’t know if anyone will ever tell him, or even if he’d want to know now – he’s almost 40 and has a family of his own.

That happened to me after my Dad died. This man showed up at his funeral saying he was my 1/2 brother as my Dad had him and had gotten married before he married my Mom. My Dad was a teenager. My Mom knew about it but had never told anyone. He showed us pictures of my Dad with his parents and the baby. We never had a DNA test so I’m not 100% convinced that he is my 1/2 brother and I haven’t seen him since. I was hurt that my Dad never told me that he had a son and was previously married. I would have liked to have grown up with him as I don’t have any brothers.
