Chocolate, marshmallows, graham crackers, campfire, and songs!  This is the perfect combination for a Spark Sing-Along at our Hershey’s Camp Bondfire.  I have really good memories of camping, campfires, and making S’mores when I was a kid.  I got a lot of experience with singing songs around the campfire when I was a Girl Scout.  We sang songs such  as “Kum Ba Yah,” “Brownie Smile Song,” “Ants Marching Song,” “Waddely Achee,” and more.  They were great bonding experiences and lots of fun, plus add chocolate into the equation and you have yourself a great memory!

ABOUT OUR SPARK A SING-ALONG CAMP BONDFIRE

What unique idea did you come up with for your SPARK A SING-ALONG celebration?

We had a great time at our Hershey’s Camp Bondfire!  It was a beautiful campground and ending with a campfire and S’mores was the perfect way to end the day.  It included the campfire, S’mores, songs, and storytelling.   A really fun idea that kids and parents like is to do a Campfire Karaoke.  This is where each person takes a turn picking a song and starting to sing it.  Then everyone else joins in.  It’s really fun to sing familiar songs, as well as learn new ones.  The campfire can be a fire made of construction paper and cardboard, a bonfire, a fire in a fire pit, or even hot coals on the grill.

Who did you invite to your SPARK A SING-ALONG party?

It included me and my boys, Frank and his three kids, and his parents.

What kind of fire did you build?

We (or I should say Frank) built a fire in our portable fire pit.  I love it!  All you need is propane and you’re set.

How did you bring your idea to life?

Our event came to life by really camping in the outdoors.  We had a fire pit, roasting sticks, and the makings for S’mores with nature surrounding us.  It was so much fun!  I would definitely do it in a heartbeat.  What am I talking about?  We are going to be doing it again this week when we go camping at Yosemite!

What are practical ways for Mom to get started with this theme?

All that mom needs is the outdoors, the makings for S’mores, and possibly some words to the songs she wants to lead or have just in case someone isn’t sure what he or she wants to sing.  It’s nice to have baby wipes on hand for those sticky hands handling the marshmallows.

What are some unique ideas to help Mom make great memories during her SPARK A SING-ALONG party?

Mom can make the event even more special by having each member draw a number out of the hat.  Then start from the number one and have each person choose a song for Campfire Karaoke.  Also, something that I didn’t have on hand is a video camera to record those special songs and moments and preserve the memories you make during your event.

What was your favorite memory from your SPARK A SING-ALONG party?

I loved the excitement the kids had as they took turns around the campfire.  I also love how excited they were to make their own S’mores (under adult supervision and guidance of course).

Why is this memory so special to you?

This memory is special to me because this was the very first camping trip we took with both our families.  I had so much fun and left with the desire to want to go camping again.  My kids were talking about it for a long time too, asking when we would go camping again.

Would you encourage other families to SPARK A SING-ALONG? How can other families put their own personal touch on the theme?

I would definitely encourage other families to Spark a Sing-Along!  I would recommend Campfire Karaoke and maybe even coming up with a family theme song.  I think that families spending time together and enjoying yummy food makes for great memories and every family should strive to create these memories.
