When I look at someone, the first thing I see is his or her smile. With that, I strive to keep my smile and my boys’ smiles healthy. I jumped at the opportunity to participate in a Champions for Kids SIMPLE Service Project – fighting the needs of poor children’s oral care and giving back. With this, each blogger will gather family, friends, and co-workers to provide toothbrushes, toothpaste, and other dental care items for children in the community. Then each blogger will give the dental care items collected to an organization in his or her community that serves children.

Before I headed to the store, I browsed the Post CFK website and read through some of the service projects that previous bloggers participated in.  They were definitely inspirational.  I pondered for a while, trying to decide what organization I wanted to donate the Spinbrushes to.  I finally decided on the Women’s Shelter.

Many of the children going through the Women’s Shelter have left behind personal things, and while this is promoting good oral hygiene, it is also giving them the opportunity to express their creativity. The children can use their imagination and decorate their toothbrushes the way they like best. I am sure they will enjoy decorating their toothbrushes and it will make brushing time more fun than it might otherwise be.

For this campaign, I visited my local Walmart and purchased 4 Arm & Hammer Spinbrushes (3 for my boys and 1 give away). I also bought packing supplies, including both large and small manila, bubble envelopes. I browsed the store for other groceries, but didn’t purchase any on this shopping trip. I purchased the Spinbrush My Way toothbrushes, so that my boys could decorate and personalize their own toothbrushes. There really wasn’t a huge selection to choose from. There was a My Way Spinbrush for girls and then a My Way Spinbrush for boys.
