As a single mama to three little boys, my top priority is their safety, as it was for my parents.  When I was younger, I had to tell my parents where I was going and give them a phone number of the parent in charge.  That was before cell phones were around.  Actually, I think pagers were around at that time, but my parents never sent one with me when I went out.

Today, many families have cell phones.  We have a cell phone and I use it all the time.  I don’t know what I did without it.  Oh wait, yes I do!  I used the phone at home and calling cards to make long distance calls.  I used Thomas Guides or called for directions when going somewhere.  When Google and Mapquest came around, I used those for directions.  I IM’d my friends when I was sitting in front of my PC.  My parents located me by calling my friends and their parents and if I didn’t check in, I was in trouble!

Today, our kids are even busier as they are involved with school activities, sports, extracurricular activities, and more!  That is where the Verizon Family Locator comes into play.

Family-friendly features of Family Locator include:

Family location – A detailed location, including the address, can be displayed on an interactive map and turn-by-turn driving directions to your family member’s location using the VZ Navigator application.
Arrival and departure updates – Provides updates when family members leave or arrive at defined locations like school or home.
Scheduled updates – Choose times you want to verify where a family member is.
Share locations – Share your location, family members’ or local points of interest by email, text message or post to Facebook.

The Verizon Family Locator isn’t just a GPS application – it’s a way to keep in touch and communicate with the family. Have your family members ever lost their cell phone? Use your Family Locator app to track the location of a missing mobile device. Is your child annoyed by always having to check-in? Find out when they’re home from school or at a friend’s house without a phone call.

Verizon Family Locator is now only $9.99 a month per household account, making family security more affordable than ever. For more information about the app, and to download the free 30-day trial, please visit: www.vzw.com/familylocator.

MY THOUGHTS

This app is awesome for anyone, especially if you have children.  If you have teenagers, there is a feature in the app where you can even see where they’re driving and how fast they’re going.  If your kids are at a school activity or a friend’s house, you can see where they’re at without having to call.  I especially like that you can use the app to locate a missing phone!  Where was this app when I lost my phone on the side of the freeway years ago?  So, be sure to check out Verizon’s Family Locator today and help keep your family safe and in the know!

We had a scare with my sister once when she wandered off in the mall. Thankfully she was fine and it just took a little while to find her, but moments like these are horrible. I can see how useful these can be. Better, much better, to be safe than have to go through the unthinkable.
