On July 10th, Twentieth Century Fox Home Entertainment released Margaret on DVD and Blu-ray.  Margaret is the long awaited follow up to two-time Academy Award® nominee Kenneth Lonergan’s critically acclaimed debut feature You Can Count on Me. Available exclusively at Amazon for a limited time, the two-disc Blu-ray set includes the theatrical version as well as a bonus DVD featuring the never-before-seen extended cut.

Hailed as “one of the decade’s cinematic wonders” (Richard Brody, The New Yorker) and named “one of the best films of the year” (Roger Ebert, Chicago Sun-Times), Margaret is “ambitious, affecting, unwieldy and haunting” (Ann Hornaday, Washington Post) and features complex performances from a powerhouse cast including Anna Paquin, as the film’s eponymous heroine (TV’s “True Blood”), Mark Ruffalo (The Kids are Alright), Matt Damon (We Bought a Zoo, Invictus), and Matthew Broderick (Wonderful World).

SYNOPSIS

From Academy Award® nominated* writer/director Kenneth Lonergan (You Can Count On Me) comes a stirring drama Rolling Stone calls “a film of rare beauty and shocking gravity.” Anna Paquin, Matt Damon and Mark Ruffalo lead a celebrated cast in the story of a Manhattan teenager whose life is profoundly altered after witnessing a terrible accident. Experience an emotional teen’s extraordinary journey to set things right as her innocent ideals come crashing against the harsh realities of the adult world. It’s an “extraordinarily ambitious film,” raves Time Magazine.

OUR THOUGHTS

I recently watched Margaret with my boyfriend’s mom, who loves watching movies as much as I do.  We were both really interested in watching Margaret because the cast of characters was awesome!  I mean, it included Matt Damon, Matthew Broderick, and Anna Paquin.  Overall, we were disappointed with the movie.  I would have been really upset if I paid the full-price cost of a movie ticket to see it.  It had a good story line, but there were so many tangents that had absolutely nothing to do with the movie.   Scenes included her two different boyfriends, the main character having sex for the first time, an abortion comment, the mother’s relationship with the guy she was dating – nothing to do with the overall story line.  However, we continued to watch the movie because we really wanted to know what happened.  To be honest, we both gasped in disbelief when the movie finally did end.  I mean, what the heck!  Not the way we thought it would end at all.  I would say though that if you’re gonna rent it from Redbox or Blockbuster Express, then by all means, go for it.

I received a screener copy of “Margaret” on DVD from Twentieth Century Fox Home Entertainment to facilitate this review.  All opinions expressed in this post are 100% mine.
