Over the past 4 weeks, my boys and I were invited to take the Oral Care Challenge with Listerine and Walmart, via a campaign with The Motherhood.  As part of the campaign, we were sent a package of goodies, including Mouth Rinse (for adults), Mouth Rinse (for kids), Dental Floss, and Toothbrushes.  My boys loved the toothbrushes.  Phineas and Ferb is one of their favorite television shows, so I had to run to the store to buy a few more Phineas Ferb toothbrushes so they could all experience the fun.

I was a little skeptical of giving my oldest son Mouth Rinse, but according to the dentist that provides Emergency Dental Care for Kids, children can have mouth rinse at the age of 6 and up!  Listerine has even made mouth rinses in fun colors and flavors just for kids. Aside from good oral hygiene, you should also teach your kids the importance of visiting a family dentistry office at least twice a year. A pediatric dentistry specialist can spot any developing cavities during a check up and then provide the necessary treatment right away.

So, how does a mom or dad encourage good oral care habits in their children?  Make it fun!  Have your kids brush their teeth while singing a song, such as the ABC’s or Twinkle, Twinkle, Little Star.  Lead by example!  If your children see you doing it, they’ll be more inclined to brush, floss, and rinse as well.  Be sure to floss once a day and brush and rinse twice a day.  Make brushing fun!  Character toothbrushes and flavored toothpastes make taking care of teeth more fun for kids!  My boys love toothbrushes that light up or have characters on it.  They get excited to brush their teeth day and night!  Lastly, remind your kids to brush day and night!  That’s right!  There is a pretty good chance that your children may forget to brush their teeth, so be sure to set up a routine.  For example, eat dinner, eat dessert, brush teeth, read a story, and go to bed.

I really liked the toothbrushes, the floss, and the Smart Rinse Mint Shield!  Just remember – the key to a beautiful, healthy smile is brushing twice a day, rinsing twice a day, flossing once a day, and visiting your dentist twice a year for check-ups!  Take the Oral Care Challenge in your home and improve your family’s smiles!

I received product samples as part of this compensated campaign with LISTERINE, REACH, Walmart, Johnson & Johnson, and The Motherhood.  All opinions expressed in this post are 100% mine.

I love using Listerine products. My child tried the Smart Rinse and liked it. I don’t even have to remind him to rinse.

  2. I’m going to try the rinse for my boys! 🙂
