Before this campaign, I was unfamiliar with the Future Fortified Program.  As a parent, I know how important it is to give my children the essential nutrients they need to lead a healthy life.  Often times, this comes down to a simple trip to the store for bags of groceries filled full of items with Vitamin A, iron, and all the other nutrient-rich foods our kids need to thrive.  Imagine this though.  We cannot access even the most basic, every day nutrients for our children.  What would we do?  Millions of moms around the world wrestle with this issue on a daily basis, and this is why Future Fortified has been created to help.  A campaign of the Global Alliance for Improved Nutrition (GAIN), Future Fortified enables millions of women and children around the world to gain access to the essential nutrients they need.

Future Fortified seeks to ensure that pregnant women, new mothers and their young children receive the critical nutrients they need for health, growth and development. Future Fortified is investing in innovative and cost-effective approaches to improve nutrition, specifically Home Nutrition Packets–small single-serving packets filled with a combination of vitamins and minerals to sprinkle into a child’s or mom’s meal such as a simple bowl of rice. At less than three cents a packet in countries such as Kenya and Bangladesh, this is an affordable way for low-income mothers around the world to get essential nutrients into their children’s and their own diets. All it takes is a sprinkle of the packet in their meals a few times a week.

As a mom of three boys, I can’t imagine my little guys (or any child for that matter) being malnourished because of limited supplies.  I think this is a great initiative to provide children with the nutrients they need to grow up healthy and strong.  Plus, it’s so easy to do and inexpensive to purchase.  With the Home Nutrition Packets, these parents can give their children additional vitamins and nutrients with a simple sprinkle on any food, such as applesauce, oatmeal, toast, milk, and many other options.  I think it’s an amazing program and I give them my full support!

Be sure to check out Future Fortified on their website, on Facebook, and on Twitter!

I’m with you there. I can’t even fathom ours being malnourished. I do try to help in ways that I can, and I do appreciate people that take it a step further.
