Our Hunt for the Perfect Christmas Tree

Yes, it’s New Year’s Day, but I just realized I didn’t get a chance to post our experience of choosing our tree for Christmas.  It was the first time I ever took all three boys on my own to pick out a tree and it was a lot of fun!  I knew how to do the basics – walk around the tree farm, find the tree we wanted, signal someone to help us cut it down.  The workers at Holloways Tree Farm in Nipomo were very helpful.  The young men cut the tree down, lifted it onto the truck, cut the stump, and had the tree ready in no time.

Now for the tricky part.  I wasn’t sure how I was going to get the tree up on top of my Subaru!  I asked one of the young men if they could help me, but they said they weren’t allowed to put the tree up on the car.  Uh oh!  No worries.  They pointed me in the direction of a more experienced Christmas tree worker who was more than happy to help me put my tree up on the car and tie it down.

I was a little nervous about the tree flying off the car, so I stopped at my friend’s house who was nearby.  Her husband pulled out the big straps and tied that tree down so it wasn’t going ANYWHERE!!!  He even helped me carry it into the house and set it up!  I have the greatest friends!

The boys were really excited to put the ornaments up, but first came the lights.  I used a combination of white and colored and it turned out really pretty.  I have never had a star on my tree before – up until this year.  I was really excited about that!  I found my light up star at Walmart, as well as the tree skirt.

When all was said and done, our tree looked pretty dang good!  Merry Christmas to everyone!
