Many of us women can relate to the monthly annoyances and discomforts that come with our menstruation cycles.  We know what these are, right?  Cramps, bloating, unexpected mood swings.  While many of us experience similar symptoms, some women face an even bigger challenge: periods so heavy they interfere with everyday activities.   Recently surveyed were more than 500 Moms with common heavy monthly bleeding symptoms and discovered that:

Heavy monthly bleeding symptoms impact daily routines. The vast majority (92%) agreed that the condition frustrates them, and more than two-thirds (68%) feel that their period controls them.

Women don’t always know where to turn for help with heavy monthly bleeding symptoms. More than 75% of women don’t know help is available for their heavy periods.  Less than half have spoken to their OB/GYN about their symptoms.

Information and persistence may empower women to seek the right help. Of those who were satisfied with their treatment, 38% went to two or more visits with a health care professional before they found an option they liked.

For any woman who suffers from heavy bleeding, learning the symptoms of an abnormal period and discovering available treatments can prove transformative.  HealthyWomen.org, the nation’s leading independent health information source for women, has put together a series of online resources about heavy monthly bleeding, an issue affecting millions of women.  The resource section includes a survey to determine if your symptoms align with heavy monthly bleeding, key questions to ask, and available treatment options to discuss with your physician.

Thanks a lot and with all the best,

  3. I was always normal, then I had my son and went on mirena. I was period free for over 3 years. I took out my mirena because we want another and since then my periods have been really heavy.

I just had my second baby and had my tubes tied. I’m nervous to see what my period will be like now!

  5. I honestly had NO idea that there was anything you could do about heavy bleeding! I just went to the site you link to above and there is some really helpful info. An ice pack? Who knew?! Because of cramps I would have reached for a heating pad. I’ve been doing a disservice to myself all these years!
