I was recently given the opportunity to try out the American Express PASS Card through SheSpeaks.  The PASS is a prepaid reloadable card that parents give to their teens.  For a limited time, if you order a PASS card and load it with at least $25, you will get another $25 from American Express to get you started.  Simply order a PASS card and use promotion code SS25 when you visit americanexpress.com/shespeakspass.  In addition, you can enjoy the PASS Card with no monthly fee until October 2011.

ABOUT THE PASS CARD

PASS is not a debit or a credit card.  It’s a safer way to give teens money to spend.  It may be used at virtually any merchant that accepts American Express Cards worldwide, including in stores, online, at restaurants and more.

HOW THE PASS PROGRAM WORKS

  1. Order your PASS Card using Promotion Code SS25. Load at least $25 on the Card at time of purchase to get the additional $25.
  2. Receive your PASS Card in the mail.  (This may take up to 2 weeks)
  3. Activate your Card.  (The additional $25 bonus will be posted to your account in 4 – 6 weeks.)
  4. You will have at least $50 to spend where you or your teen want.

*You must order the PASS Card using Promotion Code SS25.  The Card must be ordered by 4/15/2011 to receive the $25 bonus.  Only one bonus will be applied per person and in the case of cancellation, the bonus will not be refunded.  Please allow 4 – 6 weeks from receipt of the Card for the $25 bonus to be loaded. Only one promotional code per Card order is permitted. PASS Terms and Conditions apply. Bonuses are available while supplies last. SS25 is for first time PASS Customers only.

**You can also use the PASS Card to withdraw cash from ATMs, if enabled. The Card cannot be used at cruise lines, casinos or for car rental charges. The PASS Card is not intended for use for alcohol, gambling, adult entertainment or illegal activities. American Express is not liable for any harm caused by transactions that occur as a result of inaccuracies in Merchant classification. Merchant categories are determined by Merchants and other parties. See Cardmember Agreement for details.

MY THOUGHTS

The card was easy to order and activate.  I chose my American Express PASS card in pink, however, you can choose from blue, orange, and green as well.  Keep in mind, this is not a credit card nor is it a debit card for teens.  I like that the PASS card is safer than cash, that teens can only spend the preloaded amount, and that both parents and teens can log on to the site and track expenditures (this serves as a great tool for teaching your teen financial management and budgeting).  Plus, through April 15th, 2011, what better way to make an extra $25 than to sign up for an American Express PASS card of your own!  A big thanks goes to American Express and SheSpeaks for this review opportunity on The Mommy-Files!

This was a compensated post for the American Express PASS cards as part of a SheSpeaks campaign.  All opinions expressed in this post are 100% mine.

When traveling, always plan your car hire in advance. Do not leave it for the last minute as you will definitely be charged a bomb if you are hiring from an aiport branch of a car rental company. Since these companies have have to pay airport surcharges and extra taxes, these might just be reflected in your rental price!

Very disappointed with the pass service for my teenager, I gave him this card so his travels to his family in Germany where safe and he would have access to money and buy some stuff eventually, they (amex) desactivated the card while he was there, I went nuts trying to make them activate it again!! never happened, they said they were sending me another one which never arrived, worst nightmare ever!! Go with any other company!!
I filled the card with almost $ 400, now they said it will take 15 biz days for them to give me the $$, total scam!!
