Pine-Sol Spring Cleaning Giveaway
When I was younger, I remember walking into the house after the floors had been freshly cleaned with Pine-Sol. I still love the scent to this day. I recently learned that children who perform better at school almost always identify their homes with scents associated with clean. To help a child achieve, home is where it begins.
PINE-SOL’S NEW STUDY
A new Taste & Smell Research Foundation conducted study, commissioned by the maker of Pine-Sol cleaners, found that children who perform better at school almost always identify their homes with scents associated with clean. The study also showed a correlation between memory of positive scents and performance, demonstrating that it begins at an early age and is something that parents can impact.
– Children who perform better at school almost always identify their homes with scents associated with clean – 84% of students reporting GPAs of A or B had positive childhood home smells – using descriptors like “lemony, minty or clean”; with only 16% noting negative smells at home.
– Those who recalled their childhood home as being an environment with negative smells or aromas were two-times more likely to have a lower grade point average (GPA) than those that did not.
– The study demonstrated a positive connection between a w. ell-cared home and the sort of stable family environment that promotes academic success, self-esteem, learning and harmony – and enhances achievement later in life.
– 34% of students with a GPA grade of C or less, remembered negative childhood home aromas including urine, fecal and mold – double the percentage of those with higher GPAs.

HIGHLIGHTED BOOKS
– My People (Illustrated by Charles R. Smith, Jr) (Ages 4-8)
Langston Hughes’ spare yet eloquent tribute to his people has been cherished for generations. Now, acclaimed photographer Charles R. Smith Jr. interprets this beloved poem in vivid sepia photographs that capture the glory, the beauty, and the soul of being a black American today.
2010 Winner – Coretta Scott King Award
– The Lion & the Mouse (By Jerry Pinkney) (Ages 4-8)
In award-winning artist Jerry Pinkney’s wordless adaptation of one of Aesop’s most beloved fables, an unlikely pair that no act of kindness is ever wasted. After a ferocious lion spares a cowering mouse that he’d planned to eat, the mouse later comes to his rescue, freeing him from a poacher’s trap. With vivid depictions of the landscape of the African Serengeti and expressively-drawn characters. Pinkney makes this a truly special retelling, and his stunning pictures speak volumes.
2010 Winner – Caldecott Medal
– The Dot (By Peter H. Reynolds) (Ages 5-9)
Peter H. Reynolds crafts a quiet, pleasing story in The Dot – one that will strike a chord with children who have outgrown the self-assurance of kindergarten and begun to doubt their own greatness. His marvelous watercolor, ink, and, yes, tea illustrations are appealing in a Quentin Blakey way, especially as Vashti begins to go wild with her dots. The delightfully open-ended conclusion will have readers of all ages contemplating how they can make their own mark in the world. Highly recommended.
NEW PINE-SOL PRODUCTS
– Two brand new scents (Garden Fresh Pine-Sol cleaner & Outdoor Fresh Pine-Sol cleaner)
– Two improved classic scents
– The first ever easy-to-pour flip-cap in this category, offering controlled pouring
MY THOUGHTS
My boys love it when I read to them….and I love reading to them! My parents read to me when I was growing up, so I know how important it is for the development of a child. Our favorite book to read is The Pout-Pout Fish. We actually discovered this book at a Library Story Time one day. Of the Pine-Sol scents, I love the original scent the best, as that is what I grew up with being used in our home. Any time I smell the Original Scent, I immediately have positive flashbacks of my childhood. I hope to create the same experiences for my boys.

I remember the smell of Pine-Sol…my Grandma used to use it to clean the linoleum floors and the tile floors.
I had to seep the kitchen and bathrooms before they got washed and then went outside or in the basement to play cause the smell was soooooooooooo strong it made me dizzy!!!

Every Saturday was cleaning day with my grandma, with smells of Pine-Sol, Lysol and Murphy’s Oil Soap filling the air and strains of the Metropolitan Opera on the radio filling our ears.
I remember cleaning with my Grandma and getting down on the floor and actually, it was Pine-Sol we were scrubbing the floor with! I thought it was fun!
My mom had a cleaning lady — really — and the only thing I remember about her is that you could not put your shoes on the table…. so of course we used to try it to annoy her~ and there were 6 of us!

Cleaning the bathroom and the kitchen floor. Well, my mom used Pine Sol for everything. Cabinets, walls, etc. Whenever I use Pine Sol, the smell takes me back and to me, things are only ‘clean’ if I use Pine Sol. Thanks Mom!
