NESTLÉ Holiday Recipe Exchange & Giveaway
The holidays are here and the oven is working double-time, not to mention my mixer! I am proud to be one of four bloggers participating in the NESTLÉ Family Holiday Exchange for 2010. This is the second of 5 fun giveaways that NESTLÉ is promoting this holiday season on The Mommy-Files. With the holidays comes much baking and cooking. I love it because it is also the time of year where I try new foods created by family and friends and add recipes to my cookbook. NESTLÉ Family Holiday Celebrations is a special site where you can find tips, tools, and inspiration for the holidays.
I have a lot of holiday recipes I love, but one that I love from NESTLÉ are the Original NESTLÉ Toll House Chocolate Chip Cookies. This is a classic that we make every year for our friends, family, and even Cookie Exchanges! What is your favorite holiday recipe?
Original NESTLÉ TOLL HOUSE Chocolate Chip Cookies
Ingredients:
2 1/4 cups all-purpose flour
1 tsp. baking soda
1 tsp. salt
1 cup (2 sticks) butter, softened
3/4 cup granulated sugar
3/4 cup packed brown sugar
1 tsp. vanilla extract
2 large eggs
2 cups (12-oz. pkg.) NESTLÉ TOLL HOUSE Semi-Sweet Chocolate Morsels
1 cup chopped nuts
Directions:
Preheat oven to 375 degrees Fahrenheit.
Combine flour, baking soda and salt in small bowl. Beat butter, granulated sugar, brown sugar and vanilla extract in large mixer bowl until creamy. Add eggs, one at a time, beating well after each addition. Gradually beat in flour mixture. Stir in morsels and nuts. Drop by rounded tablespoon onto ungreased baking sheets.
Bake for 9 to 11 minutes or until golden brown. Cool on baking sheets for 2 minutes; remove to wire racks to cool completely.
FEATURED RECIPE:
Ingredients:
1 package (16.5 oz.) NESTLÉ TOLL HOUSE Refrigerated Mini Chocolate Chip Cookie Bar Dough
1 container (16 oz.) prepared vanilla frosting
Green food coloring
14- x 17-inch piece of cardboard for base, covered in foil or parchment paper or large flat plattter
NESTLÉ TOLL HOUSE Morsels (such as Semi-Sweet Chocolate, Milk Chocolate, Premier White)
Assorted NESTLÉ TOLL HOUSE Holiday Candies (WONKA Gobstoppers Snowballs, NERDS or SPREE)
Decorator sprinkles, candies and sugars
20-inch strip of strawberry fruit-flavored snack in 3-foot rolls
Directions:
Prepare cookies following package directions. Cool on baking sheets for 2 minutes. Remove to wire rack to cool completely.
Combine frosting and food coloring in small bowl to shade of green desired.
Spread heaping teaspoons of frosting on flat sides of cookies.
Arrange 15 cookies on the base or platter in a 12-inch circle to form outer ring of wreath.
Arrange 12 cookies inside the outer ring of cookies, forming inside ring of wreath. Adhered cookies can be moved to create more space.
Arrange remaining 13 cookies on base ring for a second layer.
Decorate with remaining frosting, morsels, candies, sprinkles and sugars as desired. Attach bow to top of wreath.
To Make A Bow :
Cut four 5-inch strips from fruit snack roll. Peel off paper backing. Cut a small “V” on end of two strips. Form loops with remaining two strips; pinch ends together. Place loops on top of strips. Pinch all together to make a bow!
Tips:
For easier decorating, 1 cup of icing can be spooned into resealable, heavy-duty plastic bag; seal. Cut small corner of bag. Squeeze bag to use. Fill with additional icing as needed. Store any leftover icing covered in refrigerator for up to 30 days. Cookies can also be made into a tree, initials or any other shape desired.

My favorite Holiday recipe is Russian Tea. It’s basically tea, pineapple juice, orange juice, lemonade, sugar and tons of spices like cloves and cinnamon. Drink it scorching hot. I could drink a whole pot myself. 🙂

Cream Puffs
1 cup boiling water
1/2 cup salted butter
1 cup pastry flour sifted
3 eggs
Sift the flour so that there are no lumps.
In a saucepan, bring water and butter to the boiling point. Add the flour, all at one time, and stir briskly using a heavy wooden spoon, stirring constantly and in a circle until the mixture begins to leave the sides of the pan and form a ball. The mixture will become smooth, leaving the sides of the pan clean.
Stir over low heat to dry the mixture for 2 or 3 minutes. The mixture will lose its stickiness. Add the unbeaten eggs, one at a time, beating each egg in thoroughly before adding the next egg. The mixture should be smooth and shiny. (Note: This may be transferred to a bowl, cooled for 3 or 4 minutes, then beaten using a hand mixer.)
Drop by large spoonfuls onto a greased or parchment-lined baking sheet (or use a large pastry bag with a plain nozzle to pipe the mixture).
Bake in a preheated 400°F oven for about 30 minutes. Allow to cool slowly. (You can leave them in the hot oven with the door open for a few minutes).
When cool, use a very sharp knife to slice off the tops and fill with pudding, vanilla pastry cream, ice cream, flavored whipped cream, etc. Top with fruit sauce or drizzle with honey, melted chocolate or chocolate curls.

My favorite holiday recipe is a 12-layered Jello Salad – it takes 6 hours, but makes a 9×13 pan and is beautiful to look at!!! Uses 6 boxes of different colored jello, you mix half of each hot jello mixture with 1/3 cup sourcream and chill each layer individually (sourcream half of the mix 1st, then mix in 3 TB. cold water to rest and chill 2nd), repeating with each color/box. Top with Cool Whip. 🙂
