Peppermint Bark for the Holidays

I love working with Wilton and recently had the opportunity to host a Cookie Exchange, featuring many Wilton products.  At the Cookie Exchange, each guest took home a Peppermint Bark treat, which I put together with the help of the Wilton Holiday Peppermint Bark Kit.  It was easy and fun and I have to admit, they turned out looking pretty darn good!  Wilton has all sorts of fun Christmas products to get your creative juices going this holiday season!

The Wilton Holiday Peppermint Bark Kit includes the following items:

– 6 Snowflake Cutters
– 14 oz. Wilton Candy Melts brand confectionery coating (8 oz. Dark Cocoa and 6 oz. Candy Cane Colorburst)
– 2 Disposable Decorating Bags
– 6 Gift Bags
– 6 Silver Ties
– 6 Gift Tags

Making the Peppermint Bark Treats is super easy.  Here are the steps:

First, you’ll need to wash the Snowflake Cookie Cutters with soap and water.  Rinse and dry.  Next, line a cookie sheet with Parchment Paper and space out the 6 Snowflake Cookie Cutters.

Next, fill 1 Disposable Decorating Bag with the Dark Cocoa Candy Melts and the other Disposable Decorating Bag with the Candy Cane Colorburst Candy Melts.  Twist the end with your hand.  Do not use the silver ties to close the bag in your microwave .   I like to place a paper towel under the bags just in case any candy leaks out.  Melt the Dark Cocoa Candy Melts first, as the candy will harden as it cools.  Turn the microwave on high for 30 seconds.  Knead the disposable bag and continue heating for 20 seconds at a time.  When it is melted, the candy in the bag may be hot, so please be careful.

Once the cocoa is melted and you have kneaded the bag, it’s time to fill the Snowflake Cookie Cutters.  Clip the end of the Disposable Decorating Bag and squeeze the Candy into the Cookie Cutter.  Gently tap the cookie sheet on the counter to spread the chocolate evenly.  ***I placed a hot pad on the counter and tapped the cookie sheet on that so I didn’t scratch or damage the counter.***

Once the Snowflake Cookie Cutters are filled and spread evenly, place the cookie sheet in the refrigerator for 3 or 4 minutes (or until chocolate hardens).  While the chocolate is setting up in the refrigerator, repeat the heating steps in the microwave for the Candy Cane Colorburst Candy Melts until melted.

Remove the Disposable Decorating Bag with the melted Candy Cane Colorburst Candy Melts.  Cut the tip of the bag and squeeze a layer on top of the chocolate layer.  Fill as evenly as you can between the 6 Cookie Cutters.  I spread the candy with the tip of the bag, but you could probably use a knife or clean fingertips.

Once you have spread out the Candy Cane layer, place the cookie sheet back in the refrigerator for 5 to 10 minutes or until peppermint candy has hardened.

Place the filled Snowflake Cookie Cutter in a Treat Bag.  Attach gift tag to the Silver Tie and tie in a bow.  Write the person’s name or a holiday saying on the Tag.  Enjoy!!!

You can purchase the Wilton Holiday Peppermint Bark Kit in stores or online, retailing for $9.99.

I received a sample from Wilton to facilitate this review.  All opinions expressed in this post are 100% mine.
